Dilemma………what to do…….

Hopefully this blog will be allowed, I don’t see it as political as such, and I feel that we as adults should be allowed to step out of the box a little and have adult discussions……..so i am hoping it will provoke a intelligent discussion without turning into a slanging match. Right, as we all know here in the UK come June we have to vote to either stay in or vote out of the EU, now I thought I had made my mind up what I was going to do, but then this morning I get a card in the post telling me all the reasons we should stay in……all supposedly independent views from professionals who state various reasons why we should remain, one of these being Martin Lewis, a financial guru who I have always found to be very knowledgeable and helpful to the general public on the best deals to be had regarding savings, mortgages, utility providers, travel tickets and loads of other stuff …..now he says the balance in all probability would be best to stay in, because we would have less in our pockets if we opt out……….. I trust him and believe he would be giving a balanced view to the best of his ability…….what to do I’m baffled…….who do you believe, and does anyone really know what the outcome will be……is it all assumptions and guess work…….

  1. Starlette, You certainly did right to start a discussion. I have no idea what you should do. Your countrymen need to weign in. In the USA we are all involved in a crazy election year and it is hard to get any decent news coverage. Why was it started in the first place, and have those reasons changed? I know Greece is having serious problems and maybe some other countries.

    1. Rose I don’t know why it was started in the first place, I know back then it was known as The Common Market, I also read recently it wasn’t wanted at the time by the government, but Winston Churchill went ahead with the decision to join…..never been big into politics, and in all honesty no longer believe very much of what is spouted off by the Politian’s………sometimes I think decisions are taken to keep favour with other countries and not in our own best interests…..

  2. `good question star and what made me decide was when a U.S. president told us what to do and then threatened us with being put at the end of any trade with them.
Should we be confined to an organisation dying on its feet and being kept alive by a few countries but on the other hand helping a lot of poorer countries in europe who would have collapsed only you can decide.
We must also remember countries who stood and fought and died for this country in 2 major wars and other smaller wars will be excluded in the majority because they do not come under EU regulations No more nurses from the phillipines?? no more interaction with africa the west indies and asia due to regulations being imposed on us by the EU.
take your pick and the best of luck
PS we might get lucky and leave and the scots will have another referendum and leave us lolol Just a small joke but all part of the mix so listen only to what you believe and dont be swayed by scare tactics by both sides

    1. Hi Cef…….. well no one likes to be threatened and told what to do, but its also a good feeling to know other countries have our backs in the case of conflict, very hard to know which way to go…….talk about being between a rock and a hard place……

  3. To my mind those advocating both stay and leave or not to be trusted. You can spin statistics anyway you want to simply by excluding or including parts of the research that either support or contradict your political view.

Each side has put up so called “experts” to back their view so it’s all a lottery. I have never done any lottery so I’ll not be starting now. I shall vote for the side I have always believed to be right….and no, don;t ask which that is. This is supposed (and I emphasise “supposed”) to be a secret ballot.

    1. Hi Way, well I will go with my heart, cannot trust and believe in all the spiel that is being bandied around……if it turns out to be the wrong move I’m sure we will just get on and make the best of it…….no choice

    1. Hello Starr – well, you have posed the most difficult question anybody back home has to face at the moment, for as you say there are experts who advise different choices, but I guess that when it comes right down to it – as it should be – your vote is your decision.
As you may know I live in New Zealand and my wife has often asked what would you do if you were still there and I can only answer as I feel – and I don’t know!
Have a great day, Kind regards Drummer

    2. hi capps, any French on this site before I answer…lol……..well I know they don’t know how to queue, found that out at Disneyland Paris, and not the friendliest of people…….good job Micky and Minnie mouse had friendly grins and welcomed us……..

  4. Hello Star,

your question is the question of what English people prefer to have; plague or cholera?

If Brussels wouldn’t exists, if any country could decide for its own will than I would say; very well England leave the EU. But as it is and Europe remains in that configuration the best England can do is to stay in. xxxM

    1. Hello Michael, plague or the cholera ermm decisions decisions………think I will pass on both….back to the drawing board……..dozen in and out bits of paper in a hat….just pluck one out…….jobs a gud un…lol…xxx

    2. Michael, I like the way you put it in perspective. Plague or cholera. Many of our members of The Republican party feel that way about the election of Donald Trump. I, like star, have little faith in the information we get, and I , like Way, have little faith in statistics, so Starlette you have not gotten much help yet. I personally believe that politics need to be discussed by citizens. I see no reason to keep voting choice a secret though I have a right to keep it secret. The right of secrecy prevents coercion and is not meant to discourage discussion.

  5. if brussels didn,t exist then there would be no E.U. lol So the question wouldn,t be asked
Is this another foreigner telling which way to vote because thats what he has done in his comments
Leave it for the british to decide and i for one would like no more interference from outsiders on our referendum

    1. Narrow is good, Michael. Focused, concentrated and, as a British citizen he’s entitled to think whatever he wants as Brussels has not yet got around to legislating on how we must think.

      1. We are being govened by brussels, we cant trade where we like yet uk pays billions to be in it, I dont care what shape my fruit is as long edible , its all wrong that we now live under brussel rule we get little say in anything , What with our goverment cutting a lot of health benefits and our NHS, doctors and our nurses they have already made to many mistakes , we the general public have to do what we are told the goverment, its corrupt all for lining thier own pockets , they were caught out by thier expence sheets, and already one has destroys his , wonder why , and the money was never repaid, it it was one of us we would be in prison and made to pay it back when we got out , thats our goverment for you , they will vote what suits them , so we have to live by brussels rules not UK

        1. I hear what you are saying Pat, my thoughts exactly…….if the government want to stay in then it tell me it is of some benefit to them financially…….and one can only hope the votes are not rigged……..or is that me just being cynical……

          1. Good morning Star,

I’m collecting new and more information on the dilemma from English sources.
The situation which you call a ** Dilemma ** is very complicated and should not be seen and answered islolated.
The fact and that’s the truths nobody will point out the dis-, as well the individual advantages. Just listen to the gut instinct won’t help as I think. We receive very little information here in Germany what concerns your reality of life in England.
I accept the standards from Brussels what a snake gourd has to look like but I can’t accept their interventions in our daily life.

As it looks like it in the moment I think England will leave and France, Spain and Italy will follow ( sooner or later!!! )

            Any decision made by the the English people will find 3 winner;
the polititians, banks and broker, for sure. xxxM

      2. That’s absolutely true Way but Brussels tells us all what we should think an do, better what is good or bad for them.

In my opinion, England should leave the EU, go back to the old currency, trade and travel barriers etc.

By the figures I took from an English paper this morning the situation of more than 2500 German firms which will close their branches in the UK,
more than 400,00 people will lose their jobs, a rise in tax by about 18-26%,
cut on pensions by about 17%, that all will trouble the English economy like an earthquake not known before. But England will be strong enough to cope with that as this county has done it very well in the 50th, 60th and 70th.

Lets wait and see what the future will bring?

  6. Way let me say a word more to the subject we discussed before. To talk economics it is wise and usefull to talk about figures and have figures on hand.

Let me denote this for you; the economist of today:

BREXITEERS are livid about comments made at a press conference on May 12th by Mark Carney, the governor of the Bank of England. He presented the bank’s latest inflation report, and then went on to concede that a vote to leave the European Union could “possibly” tip Britain into a “technical recession” (defined as two consecutive quarters of negative growth) and destabilise financial markets. Jacob Rees-Mogg, a Conservative MP and prominent Brexit campaigner, said that the governor “should be fired” for his comments.

Every inflation report sets out the big risks facing the British economy—the usual suspects recently have been the euro crisis and China’s slowdown. The nine-member monetary-policy committee thinks the referendum is currently the biggest threat to financial stability (look at the currency markets and it is hard to disagree). Britain’s current-account deficit, at an all-time high of 7% of GDP, will be an obvious weakness if Britain votes Leave.

I think that explains why I used the term ** narrow ** doen’t it? Regards Michael

  7. The figures (I hesitate to call them facts) being bandied about by both sides are suspect, to say the least. One thing that Britain and it’s people does NOT need is foreigners, be they American, German, French or Australian butting in with their unwanted tuppence worth.
This is a decision, for good or evil, that Britain alone, and I do mean alone and not bullied by any outsider, must make and then live with the consequences whatever they may be

  8. A couple of things that can be said. The EU and other countries will only purchase British goods and services, when they are the best for their needs.
Foreign manufacturers will not stop supplies, because our consumers are one of the most sought after. British design and manufacture is one of the most sought after worldwide. I am non plussed by ‘foreign aid. We fund 57 schools in a ‘third world beneficiary, non of which can be found or located. Not such a bad old country.
In or out? I dunno. Like Star says, we will get on with whatever the refurendum decides. In any event, our ‘leader’ and his Chancellor will blame all future failings on the decision we make.

  9. Your right geeljay, if we come out and things go pear shaped it will always be some one else’s fault………what I would like to hear is, will there be any changes for the better if we stay in, or do things remain the same, which at the moment are not good…….if we do come out there will be definite changes one way or the other, down hill for a while maybe, but we have to look at the bigger picture, and I’m sure we can turn things around to our own advantage in time…..have to take risks sometimes……….nothing ventured nothing gained…..

  10. think of it like the eurovision contest star lol satellite countries vote together, scandinavian vote together germanic countries vote together france votes for whoever will vote for them lol the truth is nobody wants to vote for the UK and I am afraid to say it that is how much say UK has in europe generally and that is none. Of course we have the veto but how many times has it been used?? We might end up with australia using the euro lol nothing is impossible as the eurovision song contest has shown when it comes to countries wanting more of somebody elses money.

  11. P.S. remember a certain british prime minister recently saying he was going to get a new deal for us and came back with his tail between his legs because the rest of europe told him to go away and be a good boy

  12. Off track a little, but recently read that we Brits pay 60% more for entrance to Euro Disney Paris…..the French are privy to special offers but not us, says we can have the offers if paid for by credit card…..people try and are blocked……ermmm………what’s that all about……..tells me that they don’t want us around……

  13. Thank you Michael…….I asked for thoughts and feelings on this matter, no one was excluded from answering my blog, regardless of nationality, always good to read differing views and opinions from around the world……xxx
