Current Entertainment, Any Worth the Money

Current Entertainment, Any Worth the Money

Some of us listen to music hundreds of years old and the best movie we ever saw was 60 to 80 years ago. Have you seen a good movie lately? Have you bought a record, or have a favorite song done in the last 20 years? I may be missing some good stuff, but I just stopped looking for a needle in a haystack. I have gotten bored with my old favorites and have no new ones.

I guess I sound like an old fuddy duddy. I have a young person living with me and I never heard a word of his music. I think he knows that the lyrics would upset my whole equilibrium. We have 2 or 3 hundred channels on television and usually not one worth watching. I watch a couple of British sitcoms, but most have been watched 3 to 5 times.

The last movie that I know that a family could watch together was a bio of Abraham Lincoln. Our Public channel is now starting to show a lot of gore and horrors. We can get enough of this on the news or the history channel.

What is the purpose of entertainment anyway? A lot of it used to enhance values and fortify our spirits. I still like that. A fuddy duddy, I may be; but my grandchildren are proud of me. Somebody or something has to set a standard.

I see the social sites, and I see good posts on my site, but then I guess there are the people with the gross and crazy that I don’t see. Maybe, the only people who are on my site, are looking for something uplifting.

Who on earth needs downers in entertainment and why? Have you seen some good movies lately, or do you have a song that touches your soul and lifts your spirits? I mean, do you something new and good that is somewhat current?

  1. Hi Rose, well as I type this I have a album playing of one of the groups my grandson is in, a good food tapping bluesy, Dixieland type of music, banjo, mouthorgan acoustic guitars, I love this band and go to see them whenever they are pretty local, I would defy anyone not to be toe tapping and have their spirits lifted listening to their music, and you can actually hear the words they are singing, albeit about a” Funky Cigarette.”……hehe……….Yehaww ” I Got The Freight Train Blues”……..music certainly plays a big part in my life…….Films TV not so……..xx

  2. In the time we live in Rose there is no place for great Stars, great song writers, singers etc. Our time runs to fast to kepp that on stage and alive.

I don’t care about other people meaning the reason why I adhere on Fats, Elvis, Dean, Franky boy, Englebert, Dusty Springfield etc. etc. There music brings back good old feeling, memories and suite my motions perfectly in our impersonal time.

Not to forget Stars like. I like Dixiland, Country & Western music as well as Luciano Pavarotti. But that all depends on the mood I’m in. As far as it concerns the TV prog. I deny most of the makes of today specially the cheep production made in Hollywood.

No I’m not wasting my time watching that stuff, no. It’s the same here with SC I gave myself a time limit per day ( 30 to 45 min. ) which I extend to one hour if good and interesting blogs are here from you or Star to read or answer. xxM

  3. I totally agree with Roseinbloom, Star and Von Michael. When I want to hear music I go to You-tube and pick the music I like. Todays music (on the radio or tv) is usually a waste of time. I can’t understand a word they are saying. I read a lot and when a movie is made of a book I have enjoyed I do not go to see the film. For some reason Hollywood has to take a well written book and totally change it into something horrific or stupid. As for tv…I pay $140 per month for mostly trash. There are a couple of channels that actually provide decent entertainment. I can name at least 10 shows that have been playing for the last 30 years….I was around when they originated. Last night they were advertising a new show called Naked and Afraid where 6 men and 6 women (100% naked) are sent out in the wild to see if they can survive. Let’s hope it is on after the kids go to bed. So…I’ll curl up in a comfy chair and READ!

  4. Marionp the naked bit is what will attract some viewers………and these are the levels that producers are stooping to get the public viewing, say no more….xx

    1. We have the naked type shows on our Tv too Star…What makes me laugh is the little bits of mist or fog that these people seem to carry around on their boobs and loins…..What on earth do they have under them….feathers ?.. lol.
