CHRISTMAS COMES BUT ONCE A YEAR ?
Today’s post brought a catalogue full of Christmas cheer
But as it’s only August , I thought this rather queer
Perhaps I was mistaken because later whilst out shopping
I noticed yuletide goodies , pies and cakes and xmas puddings
Christmas cards and baubles plastic trees and snowflakes
Spraying merrily out a can
I really cannot take it in , it’s getting out of hand
So Christmas ‘s here in August when will Easter then arrive
Maybe in the autumn with Spring not far behind
That means we’ll all miss winter and even Christmas too
Oh , summer ‘s got a look in so Christmas might arrive
I think I’ll be a female Scrooge shut my door and stay inside !

Scorpia what you have written reflects what I have thought for a very long time. How I remember this season in my early years, and what I see today is as different almost night and day.
It is no secret really, its all about spending, nothing more nothing less.
Last year I had asked my sister, what my niece would like as a gift from me. My sister explained, that little ( V ), age 8, loves Soccer. she is in a small team at school. I spent many hours searching the Net and did not find what I wanted. A Soccer uniform, not mass-produced, of which there are many, most produced in India and such.
I exhausted all aspects of the digital world and then asked my friends to help me in my quest. Then I found the perfect uniform from the Meister team World champs that had won the world cup of ladies Soccer 2018. The uniform hand made special for children size. A blogscaled-down version of what the team wore. Perfect. So I book a trip to the factory that produced this uniform and bought it. A Marketing agent, who had herself played on the team, after learning my story, went one step further and contacted the team trainer of her team, who was over 80 and retired, and asked if she would autograph my nieces Christmas gift uniform. She said that she would be delighted but I would have to come to her home and have tea with her with a picture of my niece. I immediately, with a smile, agreed.
The lady trainer, retired, greeted me with a wonderful smile, and invited me into her home. We sat for several hours and I answered all of her questions concerning my special gift. At the end of the afternoon. I left with an original autographed team shirt, old photocopies of the team, team members, and other small things. I was overwhelmed at the love and interest this lady had for a little girl, that she had never met. Christmas Spirit? As I remember it? Yes I think maybe so.
To make a long story short. The gift was sent and received on the little ladies Christmas eve. 2 weeks later my sister tells me that she loved it, and wanted to know at which discount I had bought this in so that she could tell her friends.
I guess that I am just getting old…

Thanks for your reply to my post sailor. ? I must admit that as the years gave past I’ve become decidedly disillusioned with the commercial Christmas we now see every year.

Christmas in August? Wow, that’s really getting too bad. Used to be we at least got Halloween out of the way first, although last year I did notice Easter eggs for sale in mid January.
I was passing a charity shop in June, and the windows, and two tables were full of Christmas things. Easter eggs were on sale on Boxing day, as last year I mentioned this to one of the assistants in the shop, and she said we have had them in for weeks. So I apologise for my post, as I was going out , it being a hot bank holiday here.
