Chernobyl Childrens Project

We have had five mothers with their children staying in the UK from Chernobyl. They arrived on the 10th July and are due to return home on Monday. Its now 25 years since the accident at Chernobyl happened and the effects are still very much around. The children we have are aged between 3-7 years and are all in remission from various forms of cancer. There are still so many children and teenagers that are effected. Many teens between 15-20 years are coming up with thyroid cancer and there is also another problem with holes in the heart. It is only found in Chernobyl – the individuals have two holes in the heart. On a lighter note, the families have had a good three weeks break and tonight we have a party at the local village hall. I have just been rapping up things for “pass the parcel” and its my job this evening to do face painting – so wish me luck. Will try and post some of the pictures tomorrow.

  1. What a terribly tragedy Chernobyl was and it’s one whose repercussions are still felt today and will for many years to come. I feel for the families who are battling cancer as a result of it. I think it’s wonderful that you’re putting on a party for them locally. Good for you!

  2. What a great work of compassion you are doing here. I hope you are so blessed as you are b lessing those. And I know that you are so blessed just in seeing their lives happier. The people who live in some areas of Japan are experiencing much radiation levels higher than the safe limit after the 9.0 + earthquakes and Tsunami’s affect on their only real source of electricity, the nuclear reactor power plants. Most are not taking any iodine treatment, and the threat of thyroid cancer issues are real. I hope that time doesn’t reveal a threat such as we’ve seen in Chernobyl thanx……Paul
