  1. In the chat room you can be who you want to be, for a little time at least. If you keep coming back then any lies or dissembling will out and your true nature will be there for all to see. Sooner or later the posers and the mountebanks are found out.

If you come in as you are, warts and all, then no-one minds.

Some, I believe, are unable to do this so they stand on the sidelines either too afraid to reveal their true character or too afraid that their lies will find them out.

That’s not to say that those who avoid the chat room are all liars and mountebanks. Far from it. Some are, perhaps, timid souls who are happier in blogs or groups where they can carefully craft their replies rather than the immediacy of the chat room where whatever you type goes out at once.

Many who never, or almost never, come into the chat make great contributions to the site in other ways. In blogs or in groups.

For some the numbers and the speed to the chat room is intimidating. They are not fast typists and cannot keep up. They cannot follow what is going on so they stay in other formats.

Bottom line, as far as I’m concerned is do they contribute to the site and its various input types.

If they do, then what does it matter if they chose not to enter a format that makes them uncomfortable?

  2. You said it all way, same as not all chatters use the groups…..sometimes its all about timing as well…some may be in chat when Im sleeping and vice verca!!…

      1. Just go to the top of this page. click on “chat” then from the drop down menu select “chat rooms” when the new page comes up scroll down and click on “enter chat room”

Then it’s up to you. Good luck

  3. Sometimes it depends on the time zones as to how many are in there Jay. Just because you don’t see them in day doesn’t mean they aren’t there in theirs 🙂

  4. Ohh way me? nah it’s the slouch couches I have!!! and I don’t do drink I’m a complete lightweight and a cheap night out 😉

I’m up at 5.00am everyday thats why I’m so tired!!…

  5. Very true, I too am guilty of being around but not always popping into chat, or if I do sometimes I just say hello and then leave, as Way stated, we go where we feel comfortable, I have read some wonderful blogs, poems and stories on this site but never had the opportunity to thank their author in chat, the room does get very busy sometimes and the revolving door hi / bye is not conducive for ‘serious’ chats, that said the ‘banter’ is excellent and I have made many good friends there. The beauty of this site is it allows for you to participate how you want to, a pick you up when your feeling down or a platform for your voice to be heard, a safe place among friends I hope continues for many years to come.

  6. It is very easy to be misunderstood in chat. I said something I thought was playful and in jest to someone in chat once and they bit my head off. I didn’t see it coming and it really hurt. I didn’t go back to chat for a long time.

  7. I’ ve been on chatters for just about 2 years…I log in almost everyday …some days several times a day…I hardly go into the chat rooms …the reason being that I find it hard to follow a conversation …I much prefer private chat…I also love reading the blogs and occasionally post some of my own …
Lots of people have come and gone in the time I’ve been here…I’ve met lots of very nice people …I’ve made a few very good friends …I don’t contribute much in the groups simply because I have not a lot of time …
I love it here…it’s like home to me …last year I even had a friend comforting me on private chat while I was nursing my dying dog…I will never forget that…
This is a great place…my only regret …that I don’t get to personally meet these wonderful friends…but hey this is how things are …after all this is “Cyber World”.. Kind of Magical! ,

  8. Re;..Personally meeting chat friends,…

Iv been a chatter on various sites for around 12 years now,Nmod,

At last count, and at considerable expense, have met up with 9 chat friends, some once, some a couple of times, and one, many times.

They were not all happy encounters…In real life, some were not quite so wonderful.

Personally meeting a chat friend, can be chancy, but if you dont give it a go,you will never know,I guess.

    1. Well Cappuccino as a matter of fact I was thinking as I was writing… that meeting cyber friends may not always be such a wonderful experience lol
Thank you for your. Comments …

  9. I go into the chat room from time to time, but as some have said when there are a lot of chatters in the chat room it does become difficult to keep up with the conversations. Another reason I don’t go into chat that much is that there is so much to look at and read in the blogs and the groups that by the time I do this, and lately I have not had time to listen to the wonderful music I used to, I have been on the computer for hours and sometimes a private chat will pop up and that takes up time too. I have met so many great people here and I appreciate every one of them, and sometimes I feel I should be in the chat room, but as I have said time just seems to fly by as I participate in the blogs and the groups which I love. I think that is the beauty of this site – that there is so much to see and do here from people all over the world, and the chat room being one of them. I will try and go to the chat room more often, but I have to check out the blogs and the groups as well. I love this site and I will be forever grateful for it and the wonderful people I have met on it. xoxox

  10. I would go in more if I could type faster. By the time I have typed a hello individually, they have left the room and it’s time to say bye and start again !
