Busy doing Nothing
Is anyone else like me busy going from one thing to another all day long. Ask me at the end of the day what have I done??? Lots of the usual mundane tasks of life; cooking, cleaning and start again. But what of all the things I say ‘I really want to do’? Have more fun, learn to dance, get on with that art project. Why do I not get on with it?
Always one easily distracted. I started knitting a matinee jacket for my first born whilst pregnant. Size 6 months, I thought I knew myself. Big family joke I finished it for my first grandchild 30 years later.
But now Im retired my time is my own. I have grandchildren with amazing names. Odin, Phoenix and Persephone. They inspired me to make xmas decorations in their honour. Odin tops the tree with his ravens and wolves. Phoenix is a beautiful dream catcher with fiery birds. Persephone will be 2 in April and is still lots of ideas in a box.
I have 2 weeks home alone and that was my mission to make a start at least. Its day 6 and lots of chores done. So today I challenge myself by going public.
What are you putting off? Do you know why? Want to go public?

I can hold my hands up to this. I DO need to get my old car road legal again. I DO need to finish going through all my Dad’s & Grandad’s old Reel to Reel spool tapes for those golden oldie moments. I DO need to sort out the excess HiFi and audio components stacked up in the guest room upstairs, and sell or give away those I don’t want / need. I DO need to go through all of my records, many of which are donations and a lot of which are actually pretty worthless, and get rid of what isn’t needed. That…is just off the top of my head. All things I said I’d be sorting when I took early retirement, over a year ago!! Ha ha!
The thing is, I’m not scratching around, bored, needing something to do. I am enjoying every day, whatever it is I’m doing with it – sometimes nothing at all. I’m enjoying life anyway, that’s the thing.
Yes I get all of the above. But I heard a list of stuff ‘you need to do’ If you are doing the stuff you ‘want to do’ I think you have it right,
Good point 👍
@Tjay I do one thing a week, that I dont want to do, IE chores. Even though I dont like them, they have to be done. But I do feel better when they are done. There is one chore, that I am putting off, I dont want to do. I wont mention it though haha But no rush .
Sounds like a good discipline. I guess your definition of chores is different from mine. Cause I know how busy you are and how hard you work. It makes me feel less guilty that even you have a ‘dont want to do list’. Have you got a neglected ‘fun list’. A ‘I really want to do but dont get round to’ list?
@tjay the thing about lists they can be edited at any given time 😆 🤣
Just about to do just that. If I get todays list right. I should gave a good day. 😂
@tjay There are lots more things to worry about than completing lists. We work for ourselves, we are our own boss 🙂
Im not a great boss, I tend to nag and be a bit unrealistic.
@tjay Dont we all. Lol
My partner and I are JUST the right side of being ‘hoarders’ which is now proving to be something of a nightmare. The house is full of, what can only be described as, clutter which has to GO ! Some charity shops will accept books of which I have hundreds, decent clothes that will remain unworn ( who are you calling fat ? ! 😆 ) huge amounts of miscellaneous objects, some useful, other’s definitely NOT the list is endless. Del’s garage at the rear of the house from where he used to work before retirement is similarly full. It’s enough to give one migraines. These day’s, I’m only able to oversee the ‘clear-out’ operations which I’m sure makes Del wish, on occasion, to hit me alongside the head with something heavy ! But clear up and clear out we must so on it goes. Hopefully, by the end of 2026 we’ll actually be able to move around unhindered ! 😆
Yeah I get that one. We sold up to sail off. Emptying a house is unbelievable. Every room holds so much stuff. I had cupboards that could have had their own garage sale. But its all relative. Mum is obsessively scaling down and why. She has room to keep her much treasured ‘stuff’. She can always put her hand on just what you need. She has brand new decorative Teacloths from pubs I ran over 40 years ago. Yes one day it will be someone else problem. So what, today it is her totally unique life. Enjoy your stuff.
As we are both now, in our ‘dotage’ we decided it would be unfair to burden the one left behind, as it were’ to cope with it all. Hence the need for the massive clear out.
Fair enough, so your foreman instructions are for his own good 🫣😈
For a man of 77, he’s Superfit – I, on the other hand- – – –
@Scorpio sounds like a plan
That’s what we thought – the actual ‘doing’ is proving to be rather exhausting, for him not me !
