BLOG CLUTTER

According to everything I have read a blog is something of a journal, for peoples thoughts, personal opinions and experiences and just about anything else.

However it is really beginning to annoy me when I open blogs and see Chapter 2 or whatever number is next.

Do people not realise there is a writer’s group for this? The admins are rachel, tonytalltexan and sunflower2.

I would have thought the group would have been a more realistic place for them, so they can recieve feedback and people know where to go to find them.

I write as well but I never put anything online, that is my choice.

To all the would be writers I wish you luck in your endeavours but please, don’t clutter up blogs with your chapters.

  1. Sunflower, I don’t agree with Kiwi at all. Everyone has the option of not reading something if it’s not of any interest to them. Blogs are a public forum for people to post whatever they wish. I personally love reading the continuing chapters of stories in progress. Kiwi always has the option to open up her own group, but I love ours just as it is.

  2. i have to agree with kiwi…chapters belong in books..books have the book club, writers club etc…i’ve always thought a blog is self-contained like a shorter essay…also, you see chapter 3 or 4 etc. and have to scroll back and back to find chapter 1…

  3. Sunflower that is my opinion and may not be the consensus. And Jojo I know a lot will not agree with me but I thought the groups and forums were for this exact purpose. To give a place to people where others know where to go to read their writings. If they are all in blogs then what is the use of groups at all. Unless a seperate page is set up for ‘chapters’ I will continue to bypass them in favour of reading the other blogs and what is posted in the writers group. And yes Kat, thankyou. That is my point exactly.

  4. Well when I first joined the writers group I asked about writtng short and long stories and where they should be posted ,and Tony suggested short stories would go in the writers groups and longer stories belong in the Blog. Unless there is another plan in the making I will continue with what was suggested. I love reading all the continued stories from other writers in the blog.

    1. Artist, I enjoy reading continuing stories too. I think as long as it’s clearly indicated in the title
that this is a continuing story so those who aren’t interested can simply skip it, the rules Tony made in the beginning, i.e. short stories and poems on the Writers’ Group and longer stories on the main blog makes sense. But that’s just my opinion.

  5. The writer’s group is described as ‘A group for those who write short stories, novels, poetry, memoirs…any type of creative writing.’ As novels are normaly 80,000 or above in word count and short stories anything above a few chapters, I would disagree with tonytalltexan. I respect anyones right to post what ever they want, but if you are in the writers group why are you posting in blogs? A group is only as popular as it’s members make it.

  6. I think both sides have a legit concern here – and I have gone to admin for guidance on it. I’m not sure how they allocate bandwidth on the site (amount of space available to each group), which is why I recommended that only short pieces be posted on the Writer’s Group activity wall, longer pieces to the blogsite. I’m certainly open to suggestions for solutions.

Having said that, I believe writers, poets, novelists and anybody else with an itch to write deserves as much space as anybody else. It’s fairly easy to bypass those blogs you’re not interested in reading.

I’ll let you know what I hear from admin. Tony

  7. At present the system is working well, the site is designed to be open and public, if you do not wish to read something then pass it by.

The word blog on this site is different to the personal blogs that give you the option of storing your work in private and then selecting whether or not you make you thoughts public.
The writers group is different and novices need encouragement, Tony has done well in administrating this group and the few hiccups that you remark on are due to members not being aware of the facilities that the site offers.

There is nothing wrong with present set up, but there may be areas of improvement that can be accommodated as groups expand and new ideas are forwarded.

As for those who take the trouble to write in the blogs, well done my friends and keep up the good work………

    Regards and wishes

    John

  8. to me blogs are tiny nuggets of one’s inner self..short and compact..a quick read ..a way to get to know someone..i haven’t figured out forums..they read like the blogs here do..and,like kiwi,i thought the groups were where to go to post things for like minded folks to read and discuss amongst their members..i really don’t see a reason to even have blogs with all the groups on here..

faye posted a blog concerning the chat room that i think should have been posted on the home page..a lot of people are going to miss that info..i would have but was directed to it by some friends..

personally i rarely read blogs any more…some just go on and on and on…and some are just stories found elsewhere and not from that person’s own experience…

  9. i’m afraid (if i dare give some input!!) i agree with both sides on this topic. if i dont think i will like what is written or if i start to read it and find it boring then i do as someone suggested, i pass by. i do that on it all not just on blogs. isnt that our right to do that? i like to read blogs and also jokes anywhere else i look when i have more time. all i say to all of you is keep up the good work!!

  10. I don’t know who is right or wrong or even if there is a right or wrong here. All I know is it makes think more than twice about posting anything…….sorry for all.
