Bad Hair Day, Trite Subject

Bad Hair Day, Trite Subject

I have a family member going into heart surgery as I speak, so I know this is a trite subject, But I allow myself to have small concerns, it is a luxury that I give myself. So many issues of such magnitude, I need the distraction. I may even get back to the gym, and it may save my life, but it messes up my hair. So don’t bother to tell me how foolish I am. I go out in frigid weather and snow and rain but No hat. It messes with my “crowning glory”.

I still have most of my hair on my head and I need to devote more time to it, but I think a couple of hours a week is about all I can tolerate and I may have to double that. Gone is the days when I washed and curled it once a week and it looked beautiful the rest. GONE. But it is still on my head and I am just coming to grips with the fact that it is demanding more attention. I also only spent about $5 to $10 a month. I think I need to change and be willing to double the time and money, but i don’t want to spend money and get no benefit, and most stylists don’t seem to care how much they damage your hair. I need to work on this myself.

I have a wig for emergencies. So far, I rarely wear it, feels so phony. I have it just in case. I also bought one for my sister just in a similar case. By the way, my younger sister’s hair turned beautiful in her senior years. She stopped dying it and let it grow some, and it is beautiful on her. First time in her life, she loves her hair. I know a lady past 90 and her hair is her one vanity. She doesn’t care about clothes, doesn’t wear make up, but her hair is dyed a beautiful blond shade and coiffed perfect in waves to her shoulders. Women are like that.

People in my area, mostly have wonderful hair. It is stylish, or sexy, or just pretty. I have gone to many stylists and am never pleased. I would love to know some hair secrets. People how do you keep your hair beautiful?

I know I am blessed and it is still on my head. I know men have to deal with that. And I know men who are very, very concerned about their hair, so they may have something to share. I still don’t like a BAD HAIR DAY and would appreciate some hep here.

  1. I understand, Rose. I’m also very particular about my hair looking nice, always. It does take time to style every day, since I have longer hair..well, shoulder length. I have found that when it’s hi-lighted, it does tend to hold the style better and longer, than when it’s not. I think that if you have the cut done in a layering style all over, and with the length on top cut shorter, will be easier to ‘scrunch’ and ‘fluff’ ..an easier to manage on-the-go type of hairstyle.

      1. Thank you Katelin. The suspense is hard, but it is good to have SC to distract me. TY for the hair comments. I just read that highlights are a big fashion thing this year. Maybe you can enjoy them even more. I am planning to do work on your suggestions.

  2. Your family member who is having heart surgery today is a major issue for you Rose, and although we don’t know that person, we know you, and your issues become ours too. I hope all goes well. (((((hugs)))) xxxxx

  3. Of course your family member is the first concern, so hands together on that. As to hair? – I am a man – full head of hair, and am 70. I spotted this sign on the moterway – haircut 20bucks – I had to wait around the location for a couple of hours and needed a haircut, with great trepidation I decided to try the hairdresser. I have only really had a couple of good haircuts in my life (cutting is the skill) one was a highly drunken french lady I found in some village, who had the shakes and was brilliant. The other was this 20buck guy on the moterway – he told me he was a fefugee and had had a salon in musimusiland with 8 staff – after the haircut I tended to believe him. I keep going back and he keeps putting up the price- good on him I say. Good hair cutters are like gold – it’s where you find it. If you are lucky enough.
Thanks for the blog Rose – nice that you make me think, and best wishes to your family member who is undergoing surgery.

  4. Hello Rose, best wishes to your family member, hope all will be well, lots of peoples hair is a different texture, so some will take kindly to one style, not so others, my own fair locks have a kink so I have to go with it, its easy for me to flick it up,its already half way there, the hairdressers I do not visit, I do not like the just set look, whenever I have gone I came straight home and promptly brushed it out, hate spending time in the hairdressers so now I don’t…….a good cut is essential, I have a young girl to trim mine every couple of months or so, I just like the free and natural look, suits me and my kinky hair…….during the summer months I tend to colour it darker, the sun bleaches it and I don’t like it too light, wash and condition every couple of days…..jobs a good un……..xx

  5. Hi Rose I hope your family member has come through surgery and that recovery will go well.
As for your hair. I am very particular as well about my hair, right from when I was a little girl – I hated anyone touching it. At this time in my life I have it long as it is easy for me to keep it up in a scrunchie. I also dye my hair (a dear friend who has let her hair go white which suits her, told me grey hair wouldn’t suit me and that she wouldn’t let me go grey) LOL. I have had it short and it has been many colours over the years. Only twice in my 71 years have I been happy with a hairdresser – I prefer to do it myself and trim my hair when needed. I also don’t like BAD HAIR DAYS!!!!

  6. foreveryoung, I am going to try to let my hair grow long and wear it in a scrunchie, but usually I have a hard time dealing with the in between stage.
I and hair dressers don’t seem to get the job done for some reason.

  7. To find a good hairdresser ,who understands what you want and does a good job it’s very hard ! Last week I found out my hairdresser is going on maternity leave for a year
She is fabulous ! And I’m going to miss her !!
