About the Bollywood film which ran  in Mumbai for about 20 years

Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge
(English: The Brave-Hearted Will Take Away the Bride),
also known as DDLJ, is a 1995 Indian film of Yash Chopra which has abundance of love and drama. It stars Shah rukh khan and Kajol.
The film tells the story of a young couple who fall in love on a European vacation, and relates how the boy tries to win over the girl’s parents, so that she can marry him rather than the boy that her father has chosen for her. It was filmed in India, London and Switzerland.
It was ranked by India times Movies as one among the “25 Must-See Bollywood Films”.
It was one of two Hindi films in the “1001 films you must see before you die, it was placed twelfth on the British film institute ‘s list of top Indian films of all time.
It is the longest-running film in the history of Indian Cinema, having played at the Maratha Mandir theatre in Mumbai for nearly 20 years until early 2015.
It opened to full houses and good reviews all over the world.
It was a hit among both resident Indians and NRIs, and became the first Hindi film blockbuster to feature NRIs as main characters.
San Francisco’s 720-seat Naz theatre saw 1000 people arrive for the first showing, and were forced to run another show late that night.
In the UK, the film ran for over a year. Earning over US$17 million in India and US$2.5 million overseas, the film became the biggest Indian hit of the year.

  1. abhilaaj, I will try to get this film from Netflix and thank you for sharing it. I watch almost no movies but do like good ones, but there is so few I just give up, but do try to keep my Netflix queue filled as I pay a monthly subscription and just watch as I do other things unless the movie happens to be a good one. I like movies with older people as I am not a youngster. I usually don’t watch foreign films unless they
    are in English. I don’t like to read subtitles. Is this movie in English?
