A NEW YEAR AND A NEW HOPE

And yet another new year approaches and my thoughts go back and back.

Back to all the lads (and lasses these days) who have died in the name of political expedience.

Those I have read about I mourn, those I knew I miss most terribly. Good lads all.

Those who are still being lost in foreign wars I lament.

I am one of those who made it home almost in one piece and I have met some from later conflicts who are damaged. Some beyond recovery.

As the new year approaches I make this wish, plea if you like.

Bring our people home. Let us have no more losses. We in the UK are no longer a world power and our leaders (crap as they are) must begin to understand this.

No more, please, no more.

Am I a lone voice crying in the wilderness?

Christ I hope not!

  1. Instead of sending men and women into battle, wouldn’t it make far more sense to send mediators and peace makers? Wouldn’t it be better to exercise political sanctions against countries who won’t comply with peace making endeavours instead of barging into their countries and killing them?

In my opinion, World War II was a justifiable war – Hitler was out to dominate the world and had to be stopped. I also think the Afghanistan War was justified after the attack on 9-11.

But I think the wars that should never have happened are: 1) Vietnam War, 2) Panama Canal War; 3) Granada War, 4) Iraqi War. Not to mention all the civil wars being waged in Africa.

I think the reasons Wars are waged are almost entirely political, plus the fact that Wars are very profitable to certain powerful industries such as Halliburton, Exocet, and many others companies who build missiles and other weapons of mass destruction.

As if there hasn’t been enough bloodshed, the major world powers are itching to initiate a war with Iran!

Is there never going to be an end to war? Sadly, I doubt it.
