When I was a management trainee I had a similar comment made to me by a dear old boy who was coming up to retirement. The gist of what he said with the gravitas of one who was instinctively listened to with quiet regard was….
“Be nice on your way up for you’re sure to pass the same people on your way back down again, as you surely will.
He also said if you are in awe of anyone.don’t………..just imagine them sat on the loo. never fails.

Thanks all….yes he was in his late 80s bless him and he was suffering from senile demintia….he was very confused when I knew him which was over a year ago…….he reminded me of an Old Army Officer……
