The cruelty of the media…

Not a political blog but just using the newly elected Labour leader as an example……..he has barely been in office a few days and he has been promptly ripped apart and disected by the media,he has been critised for his dress style, his personal life, his mode of transport and even his beard…….and his cabinet do not escape unscathed either,or their friends, acquaintances and families, every skeleton is pulled out of the cupboard and revealed to the world, now personally what the press print I take with a pinch of salt, but lots don’t and hang on to every grimy detail…….its the same with anyone new on the scene, pop stars, actors whoever…….why cannot we be pleased for their success and support them, instead of dragging them through the gutter……..is this a universal thing or just something we tend to do in the UK…..

  1. Starlette, I found your blog very informative. The media is very biased. Like Donald Trump is getting a ton of coverage while Hilary Clinton is getting almost all bad coverage. I think we all miss the days when we could trust our news people to give us news that was unbiased and mattered.

    1. There’s only one way to stop the feeding frenzy of the media …don’t buy what they sell !
Change the channel or turn the TV off. Don’t buy newspapers and or magazines who use dirty and or deceiving tactics to sell their products.
The media will use extreme tactics to get our attention. They will lift you to sainthood or bury you alive ! It all depends what sells more .
I haven’t turned my TV on for more than 5 years . Never buy newspapers and stopped buying magazines many years ago.
I get enough info by hearing people talk about things . If I hear something I might be interested in ,I will do a bit of research on the subject …just enough to know whats all about .
Am I missing out ? Maybe …I’m sure there are programs On TV I may find interesting . But mostly …watching all that crap makes me sick .

      1. Hello nmod, you are certainly not missing out,its only on the rare occasion I now buy a newspaper,I have enough headlines and rubbish stories popping up on the internet…….as for the TV, why do I bother, mainly repeats, but there are an odd few programmes I do enjoy, but a very expensive way to have a hour here and there of entertainment, like yourself I think I could happily live without it…….no substitute for a good book, and of course the computer….

    2. Hello Rose, would seem your media is very biased towards there prefered candidate, now that is so wrong, although we to have certain newspapers that favour certain parties,OK that won’t stop, but does everything have to get so personal……..every last skeleton dragged out of the recesses of the closet,is it relevant ?………certainly should not involve everyone they have ever been acquainted with…….sheesh wonder what it feels like to be so perfect……..whiter than the driven snow…….

  2. Hello Michael I hear what you are saying………but we have members of our own royal family whose friends and acquaintances leave a lot to be desired, very much so indeed………but any hint of a scandal is very quickly shoved under the covers…..it isn’t allowed to be hung out and aired………no way…….seems there is one rule for one,and different rules for others…….and after all they are supposed to set an example for the country also, they are rewarded well enough….xxx

  3. The media in Britain, esp BBC, is certainly biased to the left of politics. Of course, certain newspapers favour one line or another of political thought. They obviously will try and persuade the individual to follow and embrace a certain mantra.
And the PC brigade is out in force jumping on and castigated anything that may offend, no matter how trivial.

    1. Hi johnny, too true…..tis a brave man or women who puts themselves out there, either to achieve stardom or recognition of any kind…..hope they have the armour fitting snug, there sure gonna need it…..

  4. Yes Michael,a very good way of putting it………some use better detergent than other……the kinder journalists I think…….and the pics they manage to take just at the wrong moment, then go on to put a fitting but false write up to it……..talk about taking everything out of context……..think I will remain a Star in my own little world…….no publicity please……lol. Xxx

  5. Interesting blog Star. I believe it’s a global condition..not a cultural one.. There always people…usually very insecure individuals who are ready to deride and intimidate …especially anyone with a public image.
They are best ignore/dismissed …as I am sure many of their intended targets do.

    1. Hi goldengirl, one would hope the press could be ignored, but when they hang yours and your families linen out to dry it can be quite distressing………its just the kind of stuff some like to read and spread around, sells some papers the gutter press….oh that we were all so perfect with no flaws or skeletons, maybe that’s the required criteria to be a journalist……… NOT….

  6. Starlette…………..it isn’t just the UK, believe me. The insanity of so-called journalism in the USA is completely unhinged! The papers and internet articles will print anything and everything they can do bring someone down. It just seems to get worse by the day, sometimes by the hour. I don’t even own a television anymore. There is absolutely nothing there that I care to see. I can find better ways to waste my time, if I so desire. It’s really a sad commentary on human beings. But, it’s the almighty dollar, or pound, or whatever currency is being paid for such nonsense.
Political correctness will someday be the downfall of much of society.

    1. I don’t mind the sex, crime and scandals as long as they are all factual……well you certainly put yourself under the microscope with those activities……. Sooner or later you will be ousted on those I think….ermm….

  7. Hi Scotty, don’t get me started on political correctness saying it has going too far is an understatement, costing lives in the bargain………….its the same when it comes down to entertainers,if they are not deemed to be up to scratch in this country they would get booed off the stage, and if they were lucky maybe paid…….,In another country I visit who are not as rude as ours, they would have been paid, appreciated for having a go but just not booked again………just baffles me why we vote on talent shows and such, put people in the limelight then cannot wait to dish the dirt on them, even their so called close friends will sell stories to the press, but like you say, money just doesent talk, it bloody shouts

  8. Media often portray somebody or something with a biased view if it doesn`t slot into the norm of the writers/editors/owners/political allegiance/ view of how things should be.Unfortunately the media has a huge following of gullible readers and or viewers who believe the sort of crap they present. If I had of read the article you refer to about the polly and his attire and how he carries himself, then I would have seen him as an individual, not a stereo type and not made of plastic.

    1. My thoughts exactly sylvester……..since when do clothes maketh the man……..but would seem the press sees him as not fittingly dressed so they wring him out to dry……..what’s new

  9. I read with interest the blogs about media bias. The gutter press exists because there is a gutter readership. I am not sure what can be done about it except by education and even that is heavily biased
I try to be rational and am one of those who fears that mankind will soon destroy itself by chemical and nuclear pollution and war.
I might be over pessimistic but I cannot see any other conclusion to the present tendency. I hope that I have shocked enough people to prove to me that I am wrong

  10. Hello Rodger, well I understand your fears, by our own hand we are destroying our planet………this we all know, but still continue to contaminate with products that are destroying the environment……..but if these products were no longer manufactured then we couldn’t use them………so the fault lies at the feet of the government, they have the power to ban them being produced and should take on the responsibility to do so
