Not Much Sleep Last Night: Please Don’t Ask Why

This morning I woke up about three hours earlier than I generally get up, and so I just tossed and turned, and when I finally got up I felt grumpy. Then, I just felt drained all day.  That brings me to one of my pet peeves. I hate it when I tell people that I didn’t sleep well and their first thought is, “Why?”  And then my first thought is, “well, that is a stupid question.”  What do people expect when they ask that question?  Are they wanting a medical opinion? A philosophical discourse? A scientific theory?  One of these days when I’m feeling really snarky I’m going to say something like…

“I’m auditioning for a role as an extra on The Walking Dead and I really wanted to nail the ‘un-dead’ look.”

or…

“I’m currently moonlighting as a vigilante. I can’t tell you more without putting you in danger.”

or…

“Because my brain decided 3:00 AM was the perfect time to remember every embarrassing thing I’ve ever done.”

or maybe…

“My bed and I are having a bit of a lovers’ quarrel. We aren’t on speaking terms right now.”

How about…

“I was busy fighting the demons under my bed. I won, obviously, but at what cost?”

or if I am really feeling snarky…

“I didn’t realize my sleep schedule was up for public debate, but thanks for the concern.”

Ok, maybe I have put too much thought into this.  Also, I confess that Gemini AI helped with the snarky responses.  After all, I didn’t get much sleep so my brain is dead.

  1. I often wake up at all hours. Due to pain. I dont lay there. I get up make a cup of tea. Take pain meds. And appreciate that I do wake up. Some people aren’t so lucky to be waking up. 🙂 Do you have a nap during the day?

  2. I like that you apply humour (if sarcastically) about the responses to the question. I wish I could think up some of those on the spot. You’ve admitted you got them online anyway so, probably you wish you could do that too ha ha. Anyway you could always pop into Senior Chatters because wherever you are in the world, there’s a good chance someone else might be online at whatever time. In any case, post a song or two, or a joke or something perhaps, lighten the load on your mind. Failing all that, watch something you enjoy and sleep after, having a lie in!

      1. I must have led a sheltered life , you said you smoked pot in those days , well I smoked but never pot didn’t even no it existed I thought it was a more recent thing , as all the youngsters seem to do it now .

        1. Recreational use of marijuana really took off in the 19th and 20th centuries. In the United States, for instance, it became popular in the early 1900s, particularly among jazz musicians and other artistic communities. By the 1960s, it was widely embraced as part of the counterculture movement. So, it evolved from medicinal and ritual uses to recreational enjoyment over the centuries.

          1. Thank you for that information I can see I can learn a lot off of you lol even if it is to do with pot , lol we’re get thrown off lol

      2. So TennesseeDude , I’m i allowed to ask just what it is makes you a complicated person, also you said your an author so can I also ask what you write about , hope that’s ok asking these questions, just interested in people .

        1. I don’t know what makes me a complicated person, perhaps because I have lived a life that most folks can’t relate to. As for my books, I have written about spirituality, recovery from addiction, and a few fictional novels as well. I haven’t kept to a strict genre.

          1. Thank you for your answer TennesseeDude , that’s answered my curiosity, so to be able to write about addiction must have taken a lot of studying to be able to write about it in a spiritual way , I enjoy enjoy writing for my own pleasure , I’m afraid I messed up at school didn’t try hard enough , if I wrote something it would be about my long life and how the world has changed .

  3. Try not to nap at all during the day. Daytime napping, even for 15 or 20 minutes, can affect your nighttime sleep more than you think. Try to get some daily exercise, even if it’s just walking for ten minutes. Remember that there is one good thing about a bad night’s sleep. The next night (or the one after that maybe) will be better.
