Do You Feed the Birds?
One thing I get a lot of enjoyment out of is feeding the wild birds that visit my garden. I live out in the countryside. I put nuts out every day in 2 special feeders and also mealworms on 3 different bird tables. At one time I used to hang up fat balls but this encouraged rats so I had to stop those. Another food I had to stop was Niger seed. It was SO popular that it created too much of a feeding frenzy. So now I have achieved a nice steady lot of visitors. I live on the West Coast of Ireland. Among the birds that come are Robins, wrens, great tits, coal tits, blue tits, European goldfinches, thrushes, blackbirds, dunnocks and many more. One of my favourites is the green finches. My most exciting visitor has been a jay who came regularly for a few months. I had a peregrine falcon visit a few days ago. I also had a lone magpie. Magpies mate for life, so if you see a lone one it’s either young or has lost its mate. I always felt sorry for it; until a few days ago when it began turning up with another magpie. These are the happy moments I experience when feeding the birds. I can see it all from my kitchen window. If you haven’t made friends with your garden birds yet, give it a go. It’s one of the small rich slices of life.

@rain I have some budgerigars in an aviary. And I put wild bird mix and fruit and vegetables on top of the aviary for the wild birds. Have many different wild birds here in Australia. When I seen you say Magpie, I had to google what yours looked like. As there is a Magpie here but ours are native to Australia. 🙂
@grandmaj You certainly have very colourful birds over there which I have seen in pictures. It’s nice, isn’t it to feed birds. I like to think of them feeling full and happy, ready to start their day after a turn at the bird table.
@rain I sit with my birds and the wild ones and I find it very therapeutic
