Another Snippet of my Life.
During my shop management years, my hubby and I went to manage a shop, in Shepperton, Middlesex.
We were right over the road from the train station, so we saw lot’s of TV stars in the mornings, and evenings, coming to and from their work. They were good to chat to sometimes.
We also saw everyone going to Shepperton studios, for the filming of Top of The Pops.
I loved the village type town, and it was so much like my home town of Ulverston, once at the end of the High Street you were on to the river Thames. It was a great place to work , and relax.
I remember being asked to host french students, when they came on a week’s stay to visit places in our capital, London.
I agreed to do this, so sorted a bedroom out with two beds and a wardrobe and drawers, when it was inspected, I was asked if I would mind taking the drawers out , and replacing them with another bed. This I did.
I ended up with three students per week, I collected them from the coach that used to arrive opposite the shop every week, going by photographs that must have been taken a few years earlier, as the young students were much older than depicted in the photographs.
Once I had met them, and brought them over the road home, we all got to know each other…I must tell you, I do not speak French lol. This was never a problem.
I used to make their breakfasts, pack them a lunch, and have a meal ready for them for the evening, for when they returned from the Capital.
We had great fun dancing around to the Birdie song ect. One of the teachers once said that the students were all pleased with the way we treat them, and she wished that she could stay with us. That was a lovely comment.
We did do this for a while, then we decided we had enough to do, so I told the people that I was finished doing this Hosting.
One Gentleman,(who worked on the French Airport) requested that we take his son for another three weeks, as we had had him the year before, and in the summer months we got young tennis players who came for three week stays.I declined, and so sorry to say the gentleman would not let his son stay elsewhere.
I joined going a ladies club with some other ladies, and we went to Windsor to see shows, and into London also to see shows,I remember going to the ice show and seeing a young Robin Cousins doing his back flip on ice.
We also went to the South Bank studio’s to see, some TV shows being filmed.
I really enjoyed my life there, had great friends, and some wonderful experiences.
That is a little of my life….Mmm , Maybe I am too old for blogs….
