To two groceries today, in the dark.  Stores have begun again to keep later hours, finally.  Driving at night is like flying by instruments – the world is made abstract – streets are reduced to white lines on black asphalt and cars to their headlights and taillights.  It’s trash and recycle night.  Shopping more by mail means more cardboard boxes filling the big green recycle bins.  Modern man distinguishes himself far more by the trash he creates than by the machines he makes.
