NOW FORGIVE YOURSELF!

“If just I hadn’t said that at the last moment, everything would have been different today”…or, “Oh God how could I have done that, what was I thinking! I feel so shameful there must be something terribly wrong with me.” Or, “Things got so out of control back then and what I did ruined the rest of my life, I hate myself for what I did then!” The list goes on endlessly. Regrets. Mistakes. Bad behavior! Illicit sex, things you wouldn’t and couldn’t tell anybody they are so shameful, you can hardly look at yourself in the mirror sometimes. A bath tub of tears have soaked your pillow many nights, reminiscing over and over again some dreaded thing that happened to you, and you hold yourself responsible. It is almost as if you have made a big mistake, or something is causing you such painful memories in your life and you just cannot forget it or forgive yourself for it. First, you are not ALONE! I like that scripture in the Bible that says, “There is no sin on earth but such as is common to man” So you are not the only one who ever lived that committed it, WHATEVER IT IS! For some reason you didn’t ask for, you were tempted, and you finally fell to the temptation! So that ol’ Devil comes along, or your couscience, or whatever you believe, and says to you, grabbing you by the scruff of the neck, “Come here! we’re going to build a MONUMENT to this sin/mistake you just made! And then he brings you by the scruff or by the ear, to this monument time after time after time again! He makes you bow down to it! He reminds you of every sordid detail, condemning you to DEATH over it! It just never seems to let up and you are living in despair over it! You just start to think that you are getting over it and once again, you are dragged hand and foot back to that monument! Your nose gets rubbed in your failure. Nobody has to know about it, because YOU know about it! Well listen here, it is about time that you start doing some MONUMENT SMASHING! A few years ago a Main Line Denomination had a campaign slogan that read, “God Forgives Let Him!” Whatever you have done, regardless of how sick or deranged or hopelessly sinful, you need to go back to that Monument of your faux pas and take The Lord with you and clean out the closet. Item by item, take it out, and throw it away, even ceremonially. Whatever you must do, do it. Don’t be so fast about going to someone in the past and telling them “all” either. You may be doing them an unneccessary unkindness there. They don’t neccessarily need to know! What matters is that YOU KNOW! You’re saying, “I can’t do it!” ? Ye you can! Do you actually think that by flogging yourself that is going to justify whatever it was? You’re WRONG. Now if you did something awful and it NEVER NEVER NEVER even bothered you, there is a possible problem! But that is not the issue with you, you have beaten yourself up black and blue over this issue, and it’s time to STOP. You made a mistake. That qualifies you as “Human”. Now go back and let the forgiving salve of God’s mercy cover you. Look at David in the Bible! He was the APPLE OF GOD’S EYE! And yet he fornicated with Bethsheba, and even had her husband sent to the front lines to die, and die he did! They ALL messed up somehow, every one of them, even St Paul had problems that he faced, and Ol’ Peter, who WALKED ON WATER! The disciples were all very H U M A N ! Let go of it. Stop torturing yourself ok? God said that He casts it into the deepest sea of his FORGETFULLNESS, SO DON’T GO FISHING! He said that He would scatter it as far as the EAST is from the WEST! And that is infinity, eternity. And honey he put that there because He knew already that some of us would need to hear that someday and you’re no exception! 🙂 So go back there and thank whoever you must thank for that forgiveness, learn something from it, and walk away, done! You’ve carried that long long enough.

  2. Thank you all very much, and I appreciate your comments. The one thing about some of the “bad things” that we go through in life is that we can, in turn, be of a comfort to someone else going through the same thing, if that’s the case. One of my fav sayings is, “EAT TH’ MEAT AND THROW AWAY THE BONZ” LOL Another I say alot is, “DON’T THROW THE BABY OUT WITH THE BATH WATER”….my wife HATES that one! LOL (that’s why I say it so much haaaaa!) Yay, we don’t have to do the math any more! We’ve GRADUATED from Kindergarden already? LOL Now I don’t have to scribble all over my walls trying to figure ont those difficult quotients! I wasn’t counting sheep to go to sleep I was tryhing to figure out those “7 + 15 = WHAT? ” I’d run out of fingers and toes and what else! Some things I don’t even have TWO OF!!!!
