I would also recommend anything by the late and much missed Terry Pratchett…Always good for a giggle but also thought provoking and serious in a humorous way.

My daughter and partner are total disc world freaks. Go to the annual conventions. I read everything she recommends but I cant do disc world. The humour is bit strange to me but its mainly a fear of the size of the series. I know they can stand alone but I just cant do it. @Wiz

Let us not forget Douglas Adams,( erstwhile tech visionary/ prophet), author of many wonderful books in this same venue.

Just finished reading ‘Getting Better’ by Michael Rosen. I’m not a great fan of ‘self-help’ books as they can tend to be somewhat condescending and trite (I think!) and this is sort of in that genre but it works…Full of practical tips and ideas for getting through and over the tribulations of life by someone who has certainly had his share;…

Thanks for the recommendation. @Wiz Im a sucker for a ‘good self help’. Especially one at the right time. I shall look it up and look out for it. 🙏

One of my local pubs has banned the use of mobile phones, tablets and associated electronic devices from inside the pub. It’s not the Landlord, it’s all of the entire number Samuel Smiths pubs up and down the land.

Here’s one of my drawings showing how I feel about mobile phone culture. I’m not anti mobiles; these days they are essential and very useful. I have one myself, but…..

I’m probably at the higher vintage end of this community and. as such, I’d like to throw in the thought that I’ve long since come to the belief that old age does not necessarily bring wisdom or make one worthy of respect simply because of the number of years you’ve been around. I wonder who shares this view?

This is a good one. I totally agree that only our behaviour makes us worthy of respect. Some elders do use their age as an excuse to be unpleasant, physically, verbally and behaviourally. However I think they are in the minority. I do believe the main blessing of old age, after life itself is wisdom. I so enjoying knowing what is really…

Thanks for your thoughts, tjay. I agree that probably most people of all generations are basically good people, but it’s just the ones who make the most noise are the ones who get noticed…I think we do have to be discerning in how we define ‘wisdom’. As for myself there are a couple of things I’ve grown to understand over the years that could…

I wonder how those of a similar vintage as myself feel these days about the music they grew up with. My feelings are mixed. Some bands like Jethro Tull remain favourites today, both for early stuff from the 60’s and what Ian Anderson produces today. I saw him just before Christmas performing with the current line up in Bath Abbey and he can…

I would be very interested to hear if any of you have had experience of autism either personally or with family or friends. I ask because my grandson has recently been diagnosed as being in the autistic spectrum. Subsequently I’ve read up on this and pondered a great deal and find I have very conflicting thoughts. I should say that I’m not…

I often wonder why there are so many with autism now days, as well as ADHD etc all different types of things. Why has it increased, or are we just more aware of it now because of the…
