Ive done a bit more research and Ive decided to book my dog in for a dental scale, polish and xrays. If extractions are needed ( the vet wasnt sure without xrays) they will phone me and ask permission to do any further work and give me a reason for doing it now and not later. Im not keen on doing it for preventitive reasons at that cost but I… Read more

The best way to prevent a tartar build on your dogs teeth, which is the main cause of decay and gum infections, is to buy some chewsticks. Sold in pet stores and many supermarkets they effectively clean the teeth. If your pet is suffering from the human equivalent of toothache she will raise her lip, growl or even snap at your fingers if you…

You have a dilemma. Uk vets are getting a really bad rep for un necessary treatment and ludicrous prices. I have owned many dogs and used dental chews but none have ever had dental work. But the world is changing.

I just came home from the vet. My shnauzer had her annual vaccinations. Shes in good order. Shes 11 years old and the vet said she needs some teeth removed at a cost of around $2500.00. This is a massive cost for me and my dog is eating, drinking and acting like a healthy dog. Im tempted to wait until she gets an infection in her teeth and…

@poodle its totally your decision. Only you can make the final decision and what is best for the dog. I have 3 dogs. Im still working so can afford to pay the vet bills. I have one with skin issues that cost a lot. I wont get any more dogs at my age 68. As I wouldn’t want to have to make decisions like that. Its very hard.

It’s not cheap at all. Have you applied to Care Credit.com? I was able to in December for my cat and got a $3000 limit. He’s soon to be 11 years old and it’s been 10 years since he’s been to a vet, so I wanted a senior exam, etc. Fortunately, it can wait until spring so my friend can take him to the vet for me. I’m a stroke survivor…

Sorry it’s taken so long to reply. I have a miniature schnauzer. No poodle! I love my little girl so much and she’s devoted to me. Before I got her I had a standard schnauzer. Lovely dog too. Quite a different personality to my miniature. A dog is great company and a loyal friend. Why am I called Poodle? Every nickname I put in was rejected so… Read more

My mini shnauzer and 2 cats keep me company when Im alone at home. Ive had many pets in my life and love reading stories about others pets. My dog was s breeding bitch and shes had 42 puppies. Poor thing. I was given her by the breeding kennel (which was a good one, as kennels go????) at 4 years old. Shes now 11 and has been my bestie since I…

People that breed their dogs are cruel. In my opinion. When there is so many rescue dogs that sometimes get euthenaised when they get to many. 42 puppies the poor little thing. And all before she was 4 years old!!! I am glad you have her now. She is lucky to have you. ❤️

Hi Poodle, I also have a miniature Schnauzer who is at my side every minute of the day. I have rescued more dogs than I could number. I lived in an area for many years where people dropped off animals. My little guy socialized with horses before I got him. It’s still a learning process for him. . . and we just moved and he is having to…
