This is the Roseman Covered Bridge in Winterset, Iowa. There are six historic covered bridges in Winterset. I visited and photographed the bridges during a road trip on June 17, 2022. This bridge was featured in the movie The Bridges of Madison County starring Meryl Streep and Clint Eastwood.

dj is correct. Protection from the elements is the correct answer. I don’t believe there were many jumpers. The bridges are only a few feet above the streams they cross. A lot of repair and restoration has been done to the bridges since the movie was made.

Old Volcano
Big Bend National Park, Texas, June 14, 2024, 9:06 a.m. Chisos Mountains. The Chisos Mountains in the background are all that remain of a massive volcano. The highest point of the mountains is now 7,825 feet high, but the volcano was much higher. The red sandstone hoodoos were formed by river waters that once covered this area.
