  • Hi everyone, have been literally snowed under with activity since I last posted, and I stress “literally” for we recently endured a prolonged heat wave with temperatures reaching 45C/113F in some areas. We escaped the worst of it, our hottest day was 40C/104F which was still a tad uncomfortable. In the worst hit areas church and community…

It is so amazing to hear about such extremes from around the world. There have been members under feet of actual snow while others (like yourselves @bob_deb are sweltering. I was just saying a few minutes ago how cold it feels this morning, currently 4C outside and 15C indoors…ha ha!

    • That’s quite a heat wave at those temperatures. I hope everyone you know was ok. Do you normally have heat waves that high over there?

        • A Very Merry Christmas to All

Hi everybody – just time to wish you all the best for Christmas. It is a very mild 26C/79F day, a huge contrast from the 40+C days we have been experiencing over the last few days, the perfect day to enjoy a hot Christmas lunch. Catch you all again soon.

        • Hi everyone, 9.10pm Friday. Hope you are all well and looking forward to Christmas (yes – less than a week to go!). We will be spending Christmas as just the two of us and have booked a 3 course Christmas dinner at a nearby tavern. The prediction is for a 25C /77F Christmas day which will make a hot dinner just that much more enjoyable. No…

          • Bob, I commented before I read all your posts. I do a bit of mourning for the hatred unleashed on children in your country, and another senseless killing at a university and the gruesome murder of Rob Reiner and his wife and it takes a while to adjust. Your country is doing all that is possible,it seems, to prevent the problems and my…

            • Hi everyone -10,25pm Monday and the end of a busy day. Fortunately the weather was quite mild, just 32C/90F and tomorrow is expected to max at 37C/98F. Hopefully, we should see some rain on Thursday. Unfortunately, bush fires have been causing havoc with the loss of 16 homes just in one area alone. Our main Pacific Highway has been closed on…

32 to 37 would be on the hot side for most of us in the UK. We’re not short of rain though. In fact weather warnings pretty much all over for the next 24 hours and there is likely to be some flooding too.

                • @bob_deb Hope you will get some rain down there on Thursday and do hope you are not to close to those bush fires. Thanks for sharing with us about your day . Stay safe. 🌞

                • @cuddlysteve – Re drink breaks during soccer matches – yep we sure do, an assessment is made prior to the game as whether they will be necssary and, if so, about the middle of each half when the ball goes out of play there is a break of 2 to 3 minutes.

                • Hi everyone, hoping all are well and enjoying your day. It is Saturday evening 8.30pm. Our bureau of meterology have predicted that this summer will be one of above average temperatures, and todays’ 40C/104F tends to confirm it. The W League (our highest grade of womens’ soccer) fixture for nearby Newcastle was abandoned due to the heat.…

                  • Enjoy your day bobdeb and i hope you get some rain soon. Do they not have breaks in the football matches to take on water when it gets too hot?

                  • Bob, thanks for the interesting weather information about Austrailia. You have my sympathy as I never chose to live in the very hot parts of our country. I am now complaining about my long cold spell though. You are smart to plan to be outside on the cooler days. I hope you get your outside work done and that you get some rain. Stay cool.

                  • @larry @cuddlysteve Australia has fared reasonably well in the group draw for the 2026 world cup. Being drawn against the host team USA is a bit of a bother, I suspect that they will dominate the group meaning that the “also rans” will have to battle it out between themselves for second place. There will be no room for complacency if… Read more

                    • I think the thing that worries me most is the heat and the number of matches the platers will have played for their clubs this season – especially after seeing what happened in the club world cup matches in america earlier. Apart from that, though, i agree with you. I know some people will be expecting england to sail through, but i think…

                      • Today we prepared for posting our gift to Gerda in Germany for posting. Due to the very recent loss of her husband it isn’t the usual light hearted gift of previous years, but something that hopefully pays respect to a wonderful 17 year friendship. Firstly though, a quick look at what she has sent to us. Baked by Schmidt Lebkurchen…

It’s 9.20pm Wednesday and I’m relieved to say that the increasing temperatures leading up to the start of summer took a welcoming nosedive on Monday and dropped considerably. Yesterday’s max was 26C/79F, today’s 29C/84F and tomorrow’s is forecast to be 34C/93F. It has been a busy…
