Get up…Get out the Door

As seniors we are told that these are the Golden Years. The years that we have hoped for and dreamed of, so we could retire and enjoy ourselves. As we approach retirement we look forward to the many activities that we have planned to do for years. This seems to me a little bit like running a race, once you cross the finish line the WOW is pretty much over, because it is all in the getting there that is the good feeling. Once you have reached your goal you have to recalibrate and look for some thing else. As seniors we don’t have the master plan of how long we have to complete our bucket list. As I close in on my retirement date I forecast that it is scary and uncertain and even if you have many plans of what you would like to accomplish you may not have the funding to accomadate these ventures. One friend, freshly back from a trip to the sunny south tells me that it was wonderful but I felt like I was an ATM machine as I had my hand in my pocket paying all the time. Seniors have grey hair for a reason, that we are time tested, been there done that kind a people. Through all of those years of raising kids and paying mortgages we learned that great ability of using our God givin Common Sense. So go forth and enjoy your retirement years, every thing inmoderation they tell me is the best policy. The next thing to think about is, that once you are back from your world trip you can not just sit in that easy chair. Seniors have to stay active and engaged in real life. We as humans have to have a purpose in life. Helping some one gives me that WOW feeling deep down inside. That heart felt thank you smile is better than alot of my things that I thought I wanted to do. So even though you did not get the trip around the world yet — get dressed and get out the door in the morning and getinvolved with friends and volenteer. Helping a stranger, being envolved gives you exercise, mentally and physically, but itwill give you a sense of purpose. I am telling you if you lack purpose and drive the depression issues will encapsulate your life andtake away your joy. Some will tell you they need to be paid, but payment is notalways in a monetary form, that joy you receive from volenteering and helping will not only help othersbut it will fill your heart with joy. thank you for listening
