Blonds and Dumb or What Dumb People Say
I will just write a quick blog here on this subject that just got my attention. What is it about all these “Dumb Blond Jokes” or the Beautiful but dumb comments? I think it must be just SEXISM in a very disguised and sneaky form.
My brother is just as blond as I am and no one ever said anything about dumb to him. Otherwise, he looks like a blond male version of me. Hair says nothing about brains. Anyone who thinks so is pretty dumb to me. Then there was Hitler, this hair color thing can get crazy, even psychopathic.
How about, “do blonds have more fun”?. Again, just a stupid remark and not directed at men, so it must be SEXIST. Sexism like racism or other “isms” is pretty sneaky and underhanded. Redheads have a temper, brunettes are vixens”; so which hair color is safe and RESPECTED? NONE. So, it must be SEXISM.
Our Hilary Clinton is blond, and she is one of the smartest women alive, and not many doubt it but she is also called the “B” word a lot. I think Marie Curie was a blond and again hugely intelligent. As I remember Margaret Thatcher was a blond until she wanted to be taken seriously as a politician. So is there is no reason whatsoever for the dumb blond thing except in the Man Made versions created by men and for men.
So, I think I am right about the SEXISM in the DUMB BLOND things and the negative connotations to all other hair colors, because “woman’s power” is supposed to be in her hair, that is why some religions make women cover their hair in public. Men find them too irresistible.
Have you ever thought of this?

Hi Rose, I’m blonde and even though I say it myself I am in no way dumb………I think this blonde joke thing started with the Marylin Monroe, Jayne Mansfield era, that is how they portrayed the blondes, was supposed to be more appealing to men, the little innocent slightly dippy female……..don’t know if this image does appeal to men………as regards the women wearing the burkas and veils, I guess the reason used would be religion and one started by a man……….but me, in my suspicious little mind suspect its something men started to stop any other man looking at their women………total possession springs to mind……..just saying…….lol xx
starlette, the religions used to have gods and goddesses. You need to be suspicious, as you said, you are not dumb, so you do think for yourself.
Good Question you bring up Rose.
By my means only dumb men will categorize women by her hair colour.
Let me go back to the Nazi time here in Germany. The real Germany was blond with bue eyes and if both gender are blond their children will be the German wanted by this idiotic elements.
No we need all natural colours cos we don’t have one coloured flowers in the world.
I like your first line. I do have to question “real Germany was blond with blue eyes”.
Hitler was dark haired himself and I think his eyes were dark also. Some say he was also Jewish or part Jewish.
It is usually true that 2 blond parents will have blond children, but it is also true that 2 dark headed parents can have a blond child, or any other combination of parents. Same is true for blue eyes
Hello Rose,
please let me explain; Hitler was never a born German, he was a born Austrian, he was jailed in Germany for 5 years in Landsberg claimed for treason. He gained German nationality by trickery 1932 cos without it he could not have been a German chancellor.
It is mostly like that that blond parents will have blond children whereas the eyes of the children diversify from blue, grey or green but they can also be brown which depends on their parents lines.
I hope that helps a bit.
vonMichael. Please let me explain. How does that sound. I want to get your views and I respect them, but I see Hitler very differently, and you may need to consider that. This race superiority issue is dangerous. The science of genetics favors a large diverse gene pool, which means that mixing the races is a good thing, and no race has been proved inferior to another. I just want to state that. I am well versed in the science of genetics.
I am blond but I can be taken seriously. I know I studied history with a bias, but I think I studied genetics correctly.
I haven’t thought of the blond issue in a while. I will agree with Star in that Marilyn Monroe era this was popular and stuck throughout time. Not sure it was sexist but was used in derogatory ways to describe one’s lack of thinking.
Marilyn Monroe was pinned with it because of her beauty therefore she didn’t need to think. Her looks excused her so to speak. I have blonds in my family as I am so yeah I’ve heard the blond puns lol. All races and cultures have some sort of stigma they’re tagged with. I as my female blond family members just ignore it. We here in the south have many derogatory names given us by the northerners (yankees). My take on it is maybe blonds are liked more and in many cases prettier therefore picked on more. I remember back in school I picked on and gave blonds the worst time because they were hotter. The reverse psychology mind game thing lol Good blog Rose
Personally, I must admit I have on occasion told the odd dumb blonde joke, but in my defence, the cleverest person I have ever known was a woman, blonde and stunningly attractive. No idea whether the blonde part had any part in her dumping me after one date, but i suspect the brains and looks did lol
Oh, waylander. So sad and special are the memories of the one that got away. You got one date and that is pretty good. You must have been pretty special.
Good blog and great food for thought, Roseinbloom!
Now mind you, that is one of the few positive comments I’ll ever share because I’m a redhead with a very bad temper! More recently, it’s come to my attention that I’m a ginger. Everyone knows that gingers have no soul. My son-in-law told me so and I saw it facebook too, so it must be true. 🙂
I am not easily offended by a little joking or old stereotypes, but I agree that the root of sexism in all this is very possible.
Kaybee, I laugh at jokes myself and that is why they are so insidious. Where are the strong and totally acceptable woman role models?
I,m told us folks with white hair have Character,Wisdom and Charisma.
Have to agree with that 🙂
Indeed Cappucino! 🙂
Cappucino I like your humorous take on things. It helps to laugh at a whole lot of life. .
Thank you Cappy , you flatterer you … Hahahaha…
I have been blonde all my life and I love the blonde jokes ,becasue i can disprove them lol, it came from the Marylin monroe era, as you say, because it makes men feel protective and seem more inteligent and manly…. you see what we may lack in inteligence, we make up for in Wisdom….xx
Yes , Rose I do think about it every time it come across a “Dumb Blonde”joke
I find them …belittling and insulting , I wish people would stop
Stereotyping and making fun of others , I’m not a blonde but I find that kind of jokes offensive .
Having grown up in the 50’s and 60’s watching Hollywood movies with Blonde actresses the women from my generation were encouraged to believe that men prefer blondes, thin blondes. As young women we were inundated with movies, commercials, and magazines coaxing us to be blonde Twiggies. However, as I grew older and the world broadened, Civil Rights Movement, Women’s Rights Movement, Human Rights Movement, Vietnam, the Environment Movement, I have to say that the people I found most fascinating were those who did not fit commercialized stereotypes. Sooo, I may disagree with your politics or views on the environment but it won’t be because you are blonde or bald or purple or green.
