A STAR IS DYING

My sister sent me the following today:

“Just in case you haven’t read about it – there is a galaxy in the sky which is exploding right now and you can see it if you find the Big Dipper then line up star two and three in the handle, look beyond that and you should see a fuzzy spot. THAT is a dying star, a VAST stellar explosion.”

I will certainly take my binoculars out and try to see this phenomenon in the sky, but first I must find The Big Dipper! lol Wish my son Mike was here – he’s a keen sky watcher and was since he was but a wee boy. He’d be able to point it out to me.

I think the best place to see this would be out in the country where it’s pitch dark, with no light pollution.

I have a friend, Brian, who is am amateur astronomer. He invited me over one day and led me to a whopping big telescope in his garden, pointed at the planet Venus. To my absolute delight, I could not only see the planet, but the moons orbiting around it. It was awesome.

If any of you are able to see this phenomenon, please write a blog telling us about it.

  1. Jojo – You absolutely do and know the neatest stuff. I have always enjoyed finding The Big Dipper and The Little Dipper. This makes it all the more interesting. Thanks for sharing!
