KARAOKE

I have just taken my dog out for her late night walk (she’s getting on and pees on the floor by morning unless she has a late walk) and I heard this mob having a karaoke evening.

On the way out some woman was killing the theme to Titanic. On the way back, some bloke was absolutely murdering Aerosmith’s “I don’t want to miss a thing”.

Dear god I have no voice myself, but I do have a good ear for music and what I heard nearly made me sick.

Reminds me of the words of that great Brummy philosopher Jasper Carrot who said:-

The term Karaoke is made from two Japanese words. Oke, meaning head and Kara, meaning shit.

I think that says it all, don’t you?

    1. I agree nelly-music is my passion, I love to sing, I’m tone deaf and can’t carry a tune, but have a lot of fun singing to myself quite happily! I would never dream of attempting karaoke, I’d empty the place….some people must enjoy getting involved, I s’pose! Good luck to ’em!

  1. well folks as one who does do KAREOKE if u aint tried it how can u critisize it i get asked when i come in the bar and in my local he has my name and tune lined up the minute he sees me coming in it aint all bad i got into it by accident i do enjoy it it takes guts to sing in front of folk i know some gr8 singers who will not even do it so please not be too negative how is it when something happens and we cant do it we all rubbish it i cant swim but i dont condemn it there r other things i cant do and again i admire those who do these things

  2. i think karaoke was some drunks idea who thought he could sing but can’t even sober..lol..i’ve never heard anyone sing well with karaoke …i think karaoke should be considered a killer of good music..lol

  3. Anytime the word Karaoke appears I give the place a wide berth. Its got to be a nightmare of a night out, stuck listening to people screeching away, sounding more like Hilda Ogden than Celine Dion.

  4. I again ask the question have any of u ever tried kareoke its always those who dont who shout the most the places i visit r always mobbed glasgow has the biggest Kareoke bar in europe of course we have some gr8 singers in glasgow and area lulu michelle mc manus who won pop idol subo amoung stacks of others some of these folk started off in this type of atmosphere like av said before i never run anyone down doing things i cant do in fact i admire people why is it we always have folk knocking gr8 ideas ok might not be ur scene but be fair there r lots of us who enjoy it and it can be funny for instance one night i was singing in this bar and i swung around stuck out my hand at the line “u touch my hand and i’m a king” I actually stopped singing it was at able of men and one touched my bleedin hand lololol i found out later i was in a gay bar with a lady from our chat room lolol i could’nt stop laffin as we left lolol

  5. With my lack of voice? no I have never tried it. And if some of the ijits I’ve heard trying it had any real friends then they would tell them they haven’t got one either and to stop making fools of themselves.

If you have anything approaching a decent voice and fancy getting up on a stage in a pub, then you go right ahead.

This is the point I was trying to make, and which Pad has obviously missed so I will make it plain.

If you have a voice, by all means sing. If you don’t then for god sake keep quiet.

  6. I aint missed anything way the POINT I was making i never run anyone down who do things i cant do thats the POINT I was making it takes all kinds to make a world but it amazes me the aomount of folk who critisizes others good luck to them

  7. While my voice (or what passes for it) can’t carry a tune in a bucket, I have a very good ear. I can tell when someone’s off key or note and if it’s only slightly and occasionally then I agree, if you want to go for it then do so, but if your voice, like mine, sounds like a female hippo in labour, then for god sake accept it and don’t inflict it on others.
