Granddad to his wee lad
Granddad’s Words of Wisdom to his Grandson at dinner time.
You must eat all your meals my little lad.
And be the gentleman you hope to be.
Wash your face and your hands, always with care,
Always change your dirty shoes and please brush your hair.
Then when you are all fresh, all clean, and neat.
Then young man, you may take your seat.
You should never loiter and never be late.
And never make other people wait.
You should never ever rudely point or touch,
and never ever drink or eat too much.
Always finish what you have, before you ever think to ask for more.
Then never crumble or destroy, food that others might enjoy.
Never spill your milk or tea, and never at the table noisy be.
Do not choose the daintiest food, be content with what is good.
Then you should search in everything you can.
Then someday you will be a gentleman.

Wouldn’t it be nice ! It sounds nice and sweet ,so perfect a gentleman these days it would be hard meet !
Thank you for your post , enjoyed reading it
It would be lovely if young ones could live by those standards Bill, all they need is guidance and love and they are on their way to being gentlemen of the future
Sadly, it is a fact jenna that the guidance is no longer there for some boys or girls. More sad is the fact that it is some members of our and the previous generation who are at fault.
The kids are what the parents make them.
However the higher percentage of todays kids, we can all be very proud of..
I agree with you Bill, that nowadays kids aren’t taught manners and even less, to respect others. Thanks for sharing this poem with us – it rocks.
I liked this a lot and will pass it on to my 7 year old grandson who is a sweetie but needs guidance.
