When we were children a day felt like a lifetime
During ‘Silent Witness Contemplation’, one almost behaves like a ghost, silently observing the earthly body going about its business. If you have tried this exercise then you will have observed how you can, as it were, split into two separate entities: ‘you’ and the ‘observer’. This surely begs the question: who is the ‘observer’?
The observer is the ‘higher self’, or we could call it, the ‘spirit’. The observer is of a higher intelligence; at liberty to leave the confines of the bodily vehicle, able to remain aloof from sensory obligations (hunger, thirst, etc). That is why the higher self can cast a discerning eye. If you could regularly adopt the ‘Silent Witness’ attitude, then not only would life be richer and feel prolonged, you would gradually discern the negatives/positives in your character. After all, how can you make any changes to your life if you are not consciously aware! That is why people come up to me years after having announced that they would start up yoga, or meditation, and repeat their hollow ambitions. To them four years has flown by, probably feeling like a few months. The culprit: subconscious-soup matter!
The wonderful thing about becoming consciously aware is that from the platform of the higher self you can self-heal, de-age, refocus on your career/ personal goals, and discover spiritual meaning & fulfilment. Make each one of your days feel like a lifetime!
Exercise: When you go about your business, take some time to adopt the ‘Silent Witness’ attitude; I can assure you, you will notice things you have never noticed before, yet they were always there! If you are outside, you might spot a hedgerow, a road sign, a shop, or a block of flats that suddenly seem to have sprung up out of nowhere! Indoors, it might be taking notice of wallpaper patterns, the view out of a window, the wear & tear on furniture, the colour, or design of a lampshade, so on and so on.
