I dreamed of you and me last night,
You held me close against your heart,
As though you couldn’t bear to part
Yourself from me.
You took me high upon a flight
Of wonder, passion, laced in pure delight
Exquisite, tenderness throughout the night.
Would that it was so.
And then I woke only to find
That once again fate was unkind,
And you weren’t there.
I was by myself in my lonely bed,
The passion I’d dreamed of was only in my head,
I wished that I could find a way
To dream that dream again instead
Of having to face another cold and lonely day.
Did you just write this as a coda to 2011? I am so floored by you and others here who seem to have the muse upon you all the time. Remarkable piece full of multiple emotions.
