Immigration and the New world Order
Look round our planet and populations are on the move .Desperate people are trekking to a “promised land”, where life is said to be better. Desperate people in those promised lands, feel overwhelmed, sympathy turns to resentment and anger. Immigration is going to increase as the climate changes will force people to move, immigration will increase as unchecked breeding swells populations to un -sustainable levels and people move to survive. If scientist are right and sea levels rise, whole expanses of previous productive land will be lost under water. Islands could disappear. river delta areas gone, putting huge populations in danger. Some immigration is due to conflict and this should be solvable but seemingly is not. We have religions fighting for dominance, and sects within religions bitterly fighting each other.
We have tried stopping immigration with obstacles both physical and abstract with little to no success. The tide of the desperate , the poor keeps coming. So what is to be done? there will always be some movement of people for various reasons and that is a good thing but can we reduce the endless tide of people, families? Broadly speaking the human animal is a creature of habit, of family, of culture. Most will not move if they cam have a reasonable decent life in their homeland. That is the key. Global communication means that a person living in a hut up a mountain in Africa, a mother in a remote Asian village or man eking a living on a sinking Pacific island see how people in rich countries live. They watch Western TV films and the people seem to live like princes, with no worries and not much work.Of cause they want some of that, don’t we all?
I think we are going to pay one way or another no way out of this. We either pay out coping with a great influx of immigrants or we pay out making their lives better in their own countries. Do we need a world minimum wage for labour? Fair trade price for goods and raw materials,resources ? In the future we will have to include fresh water here too. The prices fixed by some international body, Guaranteed education for women, this will help limit family size. I have lost a great deal of the idealistic faith that I used to have in the UN, it either needs revitalizing or a new international forum with ‘teeth’ to enforce rulings. Sadly I’m not holding my breath on this one.
Yes……this does mean that our standard of living will not increase , we will watch poorer countries increase their standards however. I think too that we have limit the differential between the super rich and the poor, for the sake of stability and peace we have to restore a middle class in most Western countries. We all have to make —-greed—- unthinkable, a sin against mankind. Oops! I’m not allowed to say man-kind anymore, it has to be people kind? person kind, human- kind,take your pick!
Anyone with any other constructive ideas? please let us know, we all need to solve this problem.

Oh, what to do? Who could possibly come up with an answer? If we are living in tge United States, we have an advantage over those in the counties with horrible conditions and want to seek a life where they can be more peaceful, find a job, be able to feed and clothe a family….what we consider the simple life. Many here who are in the middle class pray hard each day to be able to pay our bills, find decent healthcare we can afford, and stop sliding down the scale from being middle class as many are. I doubt this is caused by immigrants coming into our country. And we have plenty of violence here even without them. All I can suggest is to continue living our simple lives but with love, kindness and hope that all countries can stop all the wars, including trade wars……that we want have to live with greed running our country. We have the right to vote, that is our advantage as long as our votes aren’t tampered with as it had. Besides that all we can do is pray for peace and that every adult and child finds blessings from above. That’s where things have come to. I was born during the Second World War, then lived through the Korean War, Vietnam, saw the deaths of President John Kennedy, Senator Bobby Kennedy, Martin Luther King, through Watergate, Iran Contra…..BUT NEVER saw anything like what is going on now. Many here are scared and depressed. God bless America. (P.S. I couldn’t edit this here on my IPad my eyes are going through a bad time,)
After WW11 there was the Marshall Plan. George C Marshall, US General and statesmen. He initiated and economic plan to aid European countries after the war. The US contributed greatly to this, which helped countries to recover. It enabled these countries to provide work, reboot industry etc. It also probably helped stem the flow of refugees. I think we need something like this now, although most of us living in the “rich” countries do not feel all that rich. We have a choice…….we aid these poor countries to become richer and provide for their own people…..or we take people in, many illegal and we pay for them in our own countries. Now I don’t know which is best. I know that monies passed to many poorer countries, goes missing or it is diverted to pay for guns and tanks etc. Little of it going to improve the lot of the populations as a whole. Poorer countries always complain if aid is given with strings attached but how do we guarantee it goes to do good? I have no easy answers and I’m looking for ideas. Some countries in Europe are becoming overwhelmed, they feel their cultures in danger of disappearing. Many of these people recently gone to European countries , want what these countries have but are not so keen on assimilation. That is one thing N. America is very good at, they do seem more able to assimilate different peoples, maybe more space has something to do with it or the basic culture not so entrenched I don’t know. What I do know is……this problem is not going to go away, it will probably grow……….so it is something we all have to solve one way or another preferably not through a catastrophic war or pandemic of some sort. I agree Rose …scary times. Hope you get your eyes sorted out when you see your doctor.
As far as it concern Germany I know the government gave development assistance to many countries in Africa.
In fact the money has never reached the people it was given for. Nom it disappeared in the private pockets of the
political leader. They financed their high society life with it.
The poor and uneducated are the fools in hope to find a way to better life in Europe.
I hear you, I know from having been in Africa the truth of what you say. I also know that many Africans have a totally distorted vision of what Europe is like, they think everyone is rich, every one lives in a big house, has a big car etc. They do not see films of Europeans working hard physically or mentally and think that all the stuff they have is just there to be picked up and it is given to them. I think everyone is torn apart, we want to live up to our ideals of treating people in humanitarian generous ways, yet the realization that many of the people will not assimilate into our culture, our cultures are expected to change to theirs. This is why I think the only answer is to build their economy in their own countries. Although it would cost us all money it sounds easy enough? Then we hit the big problem, as you point out Germany and indeed all European countries have had aid programs giving billions to African countries and seen those billions pretty much squandered. Very little of that aid ever trickles down to the poor, makes new roads or builds hospitals and the like. Goes into government coffers and too many leaders dip in to government money as if it were their own bank account. Any foreign government who tries to write in safe guards for the aid they give is denounced as colonial??? I just don’t know what we can do about this.I don’t have much trust in the UN. There are probably some decent people working in that institution but I also smell corruption there. I feel pretty dumb Michael. I see the problem, I see one solution but have no ideas how to to apply the solution effectively.

I have met educated Africans in Africa who will tell you that aid is the worse thing foreign countries can do for Africa. They feel that aid fosters dependance at best and corruption at at worst. Unfortunately these people never seem to become politicians?
This has made some very good reading and very true, in my humble opinion the Unchecked breeding is one of the big problems. I am aware in some cultures there are religious beliefs, but, surely good education from well respected persons could make a difference in those poorly uneducated countries. Far to many babies being born, no wonder it is all unsustainable.
I see your point Judeee, it is somewhat unthinkable but if we keep increasing the world population as we are , we will run out of water and food and then that will solve the problem because nature always has a solution.Though nature is ruthless and we will not like the solution. Education does seem to effect reproduction so I think you are correct……..and surely it is better to aim for a good life for fewer than misery for hoards. All human society will have some very difficult decisions in the future, even religions will have to face the realities of the situation as it is now and not cling to what was possible hundreds of years ago.
I don’t have the answer but here are my thoughts:
If we try to deal in isolation with the issue we will never find the answer.
US,UK and France Bomb Syria making millions of innocent human beings frightened and homeless so they flee to protect their children as any decent human being would.
The politicians are governed by greed and power – no matter what excuses they come up with – Remember Tony Blair – “Weapons of mass destruction” and “crimes against humanity” Yet no WOMD were ever found BUT they ignored the WOMD in other countries, they ignored the crimes against humanity in other countries so this was no moral decision it was a decision lead by greed.
Politicians use propaganda and especially immigration as a distraction to cover up their failings. There IS enough wealth in the world there IS enough food and water but what there isn’t a willingness to share . Boarders are man made and most countries have been stolen from their native inhabitants through violence and exploitation
When I visited Auschwitz there was a plaque on the wall that read “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.”
How many of us are not of immigrant descendants? According to Hitler – unless you could go back 6 Generations or pure German blood you were not a true German and given that was in the 1940’s how many generations would we have to go back now?
I know my mum and dad (like many) were refugees during the war and I am thankful that another country showed kindness and compassion to them.
And finally many British folk cannot afford to/don’t want to study for years to end up in a job working long hard with little time off earning a fraction of what they could working in private health care hours without immigration our beloved NHS would be doomed.
ohcarol.. I agree that greed or is it money that is the root of all evil. Politicians bend to the urging of big business because big business wants cheap abundant labour. Politicians need the money of big business to fund their political campaigns and keep them in power. Then we get caught up in the mesh of our own values. we see the suffering and human to human we want to help. Helping, saving, makes us all feel good. Yet sometimes it hard to know who we should help, hard to know if we are being played, will those we help do us harm? It is fine if the immigrants wish to integrate into the host country but if they don’t and there are a million of them? Immigrants often have very high expectations of what their new life will be, if their live falls short of those expectations there can be great resentments. None of this is easy and it never has been easy. We read in history of movements of people, resettlements, great power shifts and time compresses the hardship those people endured. 50-80-100yrs. in ancient history fills a couple of pages in a book but to those people living it, it was a long time.
The reading of history seems to have been downgraded somewhat by educators as less important and that is so wrong . You know the quote you mentioned, I believe Winston Churchill said that first. Thanks for your comments.
My daughter is a Chicago Public Schools teacher. We are amazed that so many facts in their History books have been left out! History that was and is so important to us, is written no longer! Hard to believe that the children she teaches in 5th grade weren’t even here for the 9/11 bombing. They didn’t leave that out but much has been.
I so agree Rose……If you don’t know where you are coming from, you will have trouble knowing where to go, don’t you think? If I ruled the world and count your blessings people, that I don’t. But in my world a politician would not be allowed to run for office if they did not pass a history exam’. I would also insist that a would be politician had spent 2-3 yrs. working in a lower level job in industry, agriculture or fishing, health worker, their choice. Depend on public transport, health care and public schooling. Kids are very keen on gap years, perhaps a gap year working in the “trenches” would do them all good. Compulsory for all school leavers no avoiding it for flat feet, or shin splints etc. Kind of a mini ‘Cultural Revolution”. It might serve to realign values……..Ok it is never going to happen LOL!
Oh dear. What a state we get into. The news is that there is nothing we can now do to stop the inevitable happening. It is only a matter of time before we become the minority in this country. Then we will have to put up with foreign religions, their ways of life and dare I say it their laws. I am not a racist but I am proud of my country.
Many years ago, as a young lad in the Royal Navy, I was given a lecture on my first trip abroad by the senior hand of the mess deck. Part of his job was to keep an eye on me and make sure that I did not get myself into any trouble when going ashore in strange countries.
I will always remember his words. He told me that when I was in somebody else country that I was a diplomat for our country. That I was to respect and abide their laws, religions and customs at all costs. If I crossed the line I would have to suffer the consequences of their laws. It served as good advice but a shame that in these days People entering our country do not feel the same way.
I am glad that I am nearing the last sector of my life, but fear for my grand children.
We have already lost our freedom of speech. We are ruled by do gooders and people who insist that we have to be politically correct. There is no respect for anybody and because of this nobody gives a dam. The Police have lost control as to have the teachers in the schools. And that is just the tip of the ice burg.
