A song i wrote about what happed to my village after they closed the mine

The day they closed the mine

verse(1)
I’m walking down an empty street
That once was full of noise
I can still hear all the laughter
From all the girls and boys
Children playing hopscotch
Singing songs as they skipped
Mothers shouting be careful
Afraid in case they slipped
(bridge)
And I remember when things were good
I knew everybody in the neighbourhood
I’d bring them back if I could
but I know that its to late
(chorus)
I’m living in a ghost town now
Amongst the houses that they’ve pulled down
And I wish that I could make the years rewind
My family and friends have gone
They packed their bags and they’ve moved on
But their voices, they left them all behind
On the day they closed the mine
(verse2)
I’m looking out my window now
At the houses that isn’t there
And I can still see all the people
The ones whose lives we’d share
Fathers going off to work
After kissing their family goodbye
Mothers hanging out the wash
Hoping the clothes would dry

And I remember when things were good
I knew everybody in the neighbourhood
I’d bring them back if I could
But I know that its to late

I’m living in a ghost town now
Amongst the houses that they’ve pulled down
And I wish that I could the years rewind
My family and friends have gone
Packed their bags and they’ve moved on
But their voices they left them all behind
On the day they closed the mine

Have you heard the news today
Another family has moved away
Nothing here for them to stay
For they know that it’s to late

I’m living in a ghost town now
Amongst the houses that they’ve pulled down
And I wish that I- could the years rewind
My family and friends have gone
Packed their bags and they’ve moved on
But their voices they left them all behind
On the day they closed the mine
On the day they closed the mine

  1. i can so relate to this,,,you spoke of my mining village and made me remember all the kids playing out together…that feeling of being one community…the whole village going to the miners holiday camp at skegness for their allocated weeks. sad and poignant
