DIY = omg!!

I’ve taken a week’s annual leave to get my flat sorted, once and for all. First job, put up new curtain rail and curtains. The guy who lived here before me had a big brass rail, which I didn’t like, so I bought a new slim one that needs 8 brackets, so I need to drill 8 holes. When I took the old rail down, a patch of plaster came with it, so I need to repair it with Polyfilla. The screws he used were way too big, so more Polyfilla there, But in trying to drill the new holes, I hit the lintel, which I think might be less of a lintel, and more of an RSJ! I drilled higher in the hope of missing the RSJ/lintel. No lick, so I drilled higher still, and again hit what I now suspect could be an iron girder! To drill even higher, I needed to get up higher myself. I’m a bit embarrassed to say that I stood on my computer chair, which is on rollers(!!) with the result that when I applied some pressure to the drill, the chair shot backwards, and I ended up with the drill crashing down onto the BT Vision box, (which seems to have survived,) my hands on the windowsill, and my feet still on the chair, but nothing under my belly. So I had to draw the chair back towards me and get down very carefully. Now I find, that if I drill any higher, the curtains will be too short, And these are not the curtains I intended for this window, the right ones are full length, but I only realised this morning, that they need to go on a round rail, just like the one I took down this morning!! It’s warm work too, but I can’t open the window, on account of my language not being fit for public display, and this is only day ! But I’m not beaten yet, I’ll find the secret of eternal youth or my name;s not AlChemist! Have a good day 🙂

  1. Here’s a “duh” DIY,
    I was painting a room that required oil base and Latex paint, same color. I was thinning the paint for
    the sprayer. Added water to the paint and stirred. Stirred and stirred but paint just got thicker. keep in mind these are low odor paints that are expensive. After continued attempts to add water to thin I
    finally read the label only to realize the one I was thinning was the oil base. Note to self, oil and water don’t mix. 😀
