I read this and a bit later found it still had an impact. For me, I think I’m homesick for a version of life my mind created, I longed for, but never found.

@JoyElaine Im sorry for your loss. What you had can never be replaced. For you it’s the real thing, the original. Your quote now makes even more sense and tugs at my heart. You may find something close and I understand how you will always have some feelings of being homesick.

I made Mike’s favorite beans and I also made cornbread. . . Mike and Shaun were both wishing they had cornbread well now they do. *smile*

I promised to make cornbread to go with the beans – but I don’t have any buttermilk. . . I was going to surprise him, Oklahoma always has it’s own ideas. I had no way to get any today. The white beans are ready and I’m waiting for the gas oven to preheat. I got it all mixed up and ready to go and it’s still preheating.

Joyelaine, you are quite a cook but there are substitutes for buttermilk. I make oatmeal pancakes with buttermilk and it is hard to find buttermilk in our stores but I will post a substitute that works very well. I cannot but the real old fashioned buttermilk anyway here.
