Because the pronounciation of FOUR is different from the pronounciation of FORTY !! Its the English language way 😌

The same reason when the pronounciation of a word in the ENGLISH language means different things, the spelling is changed to differentiate the meaning of a word … eg CHECK and CHEQUE. When the author writes CHECK regarding written paper money, is Incorrect.
