Chatters, What Makes Up Your Day?

I love the early morning… we are in the middle of a ?Spring snowstorm… well it is almost over, having covered everything with a clean blanket of snow. It is nice to be up with my cup of strong hot coffee before anyone else wakes up. I can plan the day, just sit and contemplate, blog, or do some of the many odd jobs that make up my day. On that note, I have become curious about what makes up the days of the people who are on this chat. What do we do all day. … are there some who work non stop and some who sit non stop? If anyone is willing to share what they do during the day, I would love to see it. I can start… I get up around 4AM and have my own time from 4 until about 5:30 or so when one or the other of the grands wakes up. I have coffee up in my apartment, shower, maybe do some of the laundry, get on my computer etc. It is my choice. When the boys wake up I go downstairs and make a pot of coffee, make smoothies for my son in law, make breakfast and lunches, and generally get things ready for the day. At about 7:30 I get the kids dressed and ready for one of them to go to preschool. My daughter and son in law are getting ready for work and leave around 8. Take him to preschool and the little one and I come back home. He might then take a nap or not, but it is just playing with him and possibly a little cleaning up/planning prep for supper. At noon we pick up at preschool and then both off for naps. That is the time when I can catch up on anything that needs doing. About 3:30 they are both up and watching ipads or playing while I get supper going. Family home around 6 and we sit down for supper, talking etc. Kids to bed at 8, showers etc. I can do what I want at 6 and sometimes go up to my apartment if I am tired or want to do that, or I hang out with them. I do keep going all day…. The summer is different… more relaxed and fun things like the pool and beach trips… also I left out that our mother’s helper, who is close to my age and great company, comes in around 3 and stays til 6:30, she takes the little one and plays with him most days, while the “big boy” and I do things. Some days I think what real retirement would be like… but cannot really imagine it… I would do more sewing, gardening, reading and probably television watching. I do love Hulu and Netflix!

  1. You sound as if you are employed as a housekeeper by your daughter and son in law …if that’s your choice and you enjoy it , good for you …to me it sounds like your daughter is having the best part of the deal ! I hope you get paid accordingly .

I’m planning to get a part time job or do some volunteering . Life is good , I take each day a it comes . …perhaps you could say I’m one who sits a lot ..lol.

    1. I love to hear what other people’s lives sound like. You sound happy and contented and also quite busy. I don’t think it sounded like sitting a lot 🙂 I love what I am doing… I hope it did not sound like complaining… I have a wonderful daughter and son in law… they do work long hard hours as they are building their careers… I am doing what I wish someone had done for me, I guess. They do insist on vacations regularly… last year went to Hawaii, and I loved it.

  2. My life is pretty much like yours . Except the grandkids are older. 12 and 13 now. So they are no longer in need of my constant attention. But I am so grateful that I got to be a major part of their lives as they grew. Most of my time is my own. My health won’t permit me to do a whole lot. So I guess I fall into the sedentary category. Still have my eyes so I can enjoy reading. Thank God. Have never been much for socializing. This is as close to a social life that I have, or require. You and I have it good. The opportunity to continue being needed and wanted by our loved ones when so many seniors are shunted aside. We are not paid employees….we are part of a family. God Bless you.
    Love, Jackie xxxx

    1. You hit the nail on the head jackie… I think some would not be able to understand how pleasurable it is to fit into the family in the best way you can contribute. They might feel it as being taken advantage of in some way, but I truly feel blessed to be able to have such a big part in raising these darlings. I am a person who kind of has to force myself to socialize too… not that Im a hermit or anything… just have a few good friends and that is enough. I also have three sisters and five brothers and we are fairly close, although they all live in Vermont… thank heavens for the internet….and cell phones….

  3. My life is a bit different from many of the others here.. I still have 3 of my kids at home, sometimes 4. { Son is home from college on the weekends}. Half of each day i spend at one job, very sedentary, sitting and doing medical transcription from home (and chatting 🙂 .. the other half (both halves varying from day to day) I spend on my feet at my other job at Starbucks running around, doing my duty to caffeinate the masses. lol My “at home” half is busy w/ housewife and motherly things – chores, errands, cooking, etc.. On weekends it’s pretty much the same, only we try to fit in somewhat of a social life. That usually has to take a back seat to my 2 jobs and hsb’s job -and some side handyman-type jobs- & kids social and sport schedules. Life is full and busy! Oh, and last but not least I get to babysit my one and only (so far) grandson who is 1 yr. Monday has become ‘”baby day”.. so even tho he doesn’t live w/ me I get to be a part of his life.. The end 🙂

  4. Love reading about everyone’s day, thank you.

For me its up at 3.00am, me time for half an hour, cuppa on the patio and thinking time. Hubby has a sleep in till 4.00am then it off to our business at 4.30am where we work till about 11.00am four days a week.

First thing after work we take our joyful little dog for a walk, meet friends along the way and have natter. We have our main meal at lunch time so on goes the barbie, hubby cooks four days a week and me three. Then it is senior chatters time. The work phone is diverted to home so i am up and down like a yoyo answering calls and being here lol. In all little Charlie gets five walks a day, two long on the lead and three of leash where she can run free.

Our three day weekend is spent on the usual chores, housework gardening etc, Saturday is our date day, out for breakfast, shopping, cooking and candle lit dinner on the terrace. Friends pop in over these three days so lovely sociable time.

Love the life we have made for ourselves in our senior years, great balance of work and play.

    1. Your life sounds really lovely to me…. and very relaxing. I imagine that as my grands get older and need less from me I will have less demands on me and be able to have more of that. I like to read it because your feeling about how much you enjoy it really came through!
