Movies. Television,Books, ETC. for old People
I finally reached the time of my life when I have time for some amusement and I am tired of my offerings. I see almost no movies or television. Movies, maybe one or two a year at theaters. Television, I love a few British sitcoms that take a more realistic look at life. I saw the first movie about the Marigold Hotel and today I plan to see the new movie sequel. There are old people in it. Not fake people but real blood and bones, and passions people over 60 who are facing an array of issues of people of that age.
A friend just commented on a movie, and I put it on my queue. I could use more recommendations. She said it was funny, and it is a tired theme and about people 40 or 50 years younger, but a movie that speaks to me in a language I can understand is very rare. Still, I don’t pay for movies that are not worth my time or money. Life has old and young people, so why can;t movies and television and why can’ the people be real.
I like young people but I still like movies and show about people my age. I recently went to see Kenny Rogers, a singer, He is not what he used to be but It was still fun. I know some people don’t like the word old, but we are OLD, but not too old to want to enjoy life still with people like ourselves.
Maybe, we need to start writing some books and screen plays ourselves. I may get busy on that. Somebody needs to be get busy on that. In the meantime maybe we could mention the good stuff all over this site, or send a private message to a person that you know we also like something that you have seen.
I have solved the problem in two ways, we can start writing our own and we can share ideas. There may be group for this and maybe, we need a group for this and that is the 3rd solution. I still my people in “The Last Tango in Halifax”. I am glad to catchas h up with Marigold group and if anyone a word to pass along about the “Last Tango group. please pass it along. Think I am still in the 3rd rerun of Doc Martin, and the 4th or 5th rerun of some of the others.
Do the other countries have movies that we don’t get? Could I access televison in another country somehow? Computers can reach anywhere. If you have a movie television service in the UK that I could sign up for? If so tell me how. PLEASE.

My best show on television is Person of Interest. Another that just started is Ascension.
Both are fiction, but close to reality, or at least possible.
I just have those shows scheduled to be recorded and I watch them when I feel like it. Nice to fast forward through commercials.
I also watch Elementary, because I like a mystery.
I don’t watch many movies, I tend to doze off. Especially if my wife has picked the movie.
Davidr.I have never heard of those shows. I see you are in Canada. I watch Father Brown, it is a British mystery, and the British sit coms even though most all of them are reruns here. I have a friend who tapes, and we can can check those shows out.
Get writing roseinbloom I would like to see more books TV programs films that relate to older people also …love the Best Marigold Hotel looking forward to seeing the second one …Last Tango in halifax never missed it …we need more of this and less of the violent sex & science fiction…just my opinion
Roshario, I just went to see “The second best Marigold hotel” and it was good. Alot to think about, so a good movie to move conversation along.
Great blog topic Rose.
One I watch is ( As time goes by) here on our local public station.
One thought on today’s movies/sitcoms, The entertainment industry
caters to the younger to middle age because that’s where the advertising dollars are. We as older people don’t support/spend money as much therefore they cater to the market so we are left with reruns lol. I for one tend to watch documentaries and educational tv more. It’s better for the brain. Honestly there’s just not that much good entertainment coming out of the movie industry these days. Then again it’s probably just just me getting older.
If there were more movies that catered to our age group perhaps I wouldn’t nap in front of the tube as much lol.
Watch “The Greatest Marigold Hotel” Brilliantly funny for silvers.
jsmile, you make a good point. The older people have money now, but I hear that they are not influenced by commercials. which is probably true. I was thinking mostly of movies, and they are starting to do more. I also read that the baby boomers will reinvent “old age” and they are. The “old people” are still creating lives worthy of good drama. The are working, pursuing love, adventure, and changing the world. All done by young people. They are also raising grandchildren, They are living stories that could be told.
I did watch it and found it spoke to many issues of older people.
I’ll stay on the subject Rose if you don’t mind. Us ( the old? ) don’t really exists any longer for the industry, we are no target groups at all.
To create temptations but no think about it twice ( buy now, order now, rent now ) let us make the money now, these are the secrets of the moment.
That’s way bad stories get turned into a movie which can be sold world wide. Watch it and forget it but don’t stay in mind. Tha’s all what counts now. The newest, the latest, the most expansive, just the must have it is the device of today to be in and not out.
Money ( bucks ) can only be made with the young ones not with wrinkles. So if you think and feel to be a yesterdays person, go and find the entertainment of your choise
somewhere else but not on TV today.
We don’t count for them any longer but that has a big, big advantage for us, the greyhounds and wrinkles, we can spend our money very, very selective to meet our demands and up to our tast. But the time will come when the forgotten get remembered, believe me Rose.
We have a great selection here inAustralia on Television for most age groups Bloom ,Mostly English , series, for the older generation ,News of the world on the A.B.C. which gives us all the news as it is happening all over the world…..
I agree that the best shows here are mostly English, we do not have many of our own shows any more ,mostly quiz shows which are shared with other western countries…
I dont watch a lot of Television ,”Escape to the country” being the one show from England I will never miss… one of my faves…
So busy writing poetry and now writing a book on my recent family find in England , which i,m sure with research and writing will take me many months to write .
So I find with writing, watching my fave shows , family and friends , I don,t have much time for copius ammounts of T.V watching …..
Lani, We only get a few British shows and we only get them on PBS. Our tv is mostly unfit for human consumption.
Great show I just been watching is “Foyles War ” British program great .
Am really loving “Fortitude” right now and have loved the “scandi” influence of late… Very slow with dramatic plot elements and acting that isn’t for the camera.. More please!! Am still discovering british classics from both pre and post war … You know … The stuff your parents watched that you poo-poohed at during your first twenty years or so!!!!
Rose, Ageing does not make us worse, unless we are bananas !
