Who Really speaks to You Through Art

Who speaks to you and for you through their ART, whether it be song, verse or comedy or visual art? Have you really thought about this, or do you just partake and go about your affairs? Why do many of us get involved with music or art in our youth and then leave it in later life? Do we lose touch with our soul or spirit as we age?

How do we use art in our daily life to make it more beautiful or meaningful? When I was quite young, I had a rejection to deal with and I played music all that weekend. I played a lot of Frank Sinatra and songs from “Man of La Mancha”. I recovered quite well.

I continued to play inspiring music through out my life. These songs spoke to me and for me I also played funny songs by Roger Miller, folk songs by Bob Dylan and Joan Baez and Peter, Paul and Mary. I played these and many others even classical and different types of opera. I played country and western also because they have songs for everything. Kenny Rogers sums up life for me as well as Shakespeare does in a song that says “you gotta know when to hold “em, you gotta know when to fold them, and you gotta know when to pick them up and walk away”.

This blog can’t be a treatise and I may not know one note from another, but music can speak to me loudly and clearly in many different varieties. Visual art and poetry does the same. Food, Crafts and nature are also art. Any time we seek the beautiful or meaningful, art is speaking to us and for us. Any time we do anything that makes something more beautiful or meaningful, we are making and using art.

So, imagine your life without art and then remember your life and art and how it has interpreted life and shaped your life. Who makes art for older people? Are there still music and art that makes your heart sing?

  1. It is being creative that make us human………everything we use has been designed and artfully created…….. whether a chair we sit on, a programme we may watch or the car we drive……all creative….

  2. Art as in paintings……..well I love the works of L. S. Lowry……..plain and simple, no pretence, humour and working life in them, commonly know as the matchstick people, gosh !! i was drawing that kind of thing in junior school, if only I had put them out there…………music, most kinds, have always preferred the songs that told someone’s story……lots have been written from personal experience that most could relate to……..design I love, some of my favourite times are spent planning, buying and putting together different looks in my home, I have the Winter look and the Summer look..lol………..not really that sad……..I do have a life……….have even dabbled with the paintbrush………on paper that is, not just on the walls……….

  3. I am an artist so art is part of my existence. I also am greatly affected by music and poetry.

But I do believe beauty is in the eye of the beholder and it’s often more about the process then the result. If you have any creative inclinations then you should pursue it and not be overly concerned about attaining to a uniform standard. The act of creation is so satisfying you should just enjoy yourself.

Of course I have favorite artists but ultimately I think it’s a personal preferance that can be influenced by a variety of factors.

“You might as well ask an artist to explain his art, or ask a poet to explain his poem. It defeats the purpose. The meaning is only clear thorough the search.”

  4. I’ve always been an artist not with paint but with a pencil. I see beauty in all expressions of art and appreciate different interpretations. Although I think some people who consider their efforts are art are fooling themselves, they are just dopeys who need to get a life.
My tastes are eclectic so new art is something to be looked at and judged on the basis of is it interesting does it make you think if it does well then it is worth appreciating.
I do appreciate this type of blog it gets me thinking again and allows me to write something on the more intellectual side of life. Rather then my posts on the wonders of chocolate. Many thanks rose
