A Broken Heart part 1

Its nearly a year now, since I got the pains in my chest, I had what i thought was indegestion pains for a while, my doctor had told me that it was reflux, and prescribed Omeprazole to cut the acid out. They worked no acid the pains faded away. Then i woke one night the pains were severe, I took Omeprazole and the pain persisted not so bad but, but was there, I phoned NHS 24, spoke to a nurse who suggested paracetamol would help, I took two and went back to sleep, after the nurse made an appointment for me to see my GP.
The GP said she didnt think it was Angina but I was to double the does of Omeprazole for a couple of days to see if that helped if not I was to get back to her. No more pain for a couple of days, On the following Thursday I took tara for her morning walk, we had been out ten minutes the pain hit me again, I was so weak, I was breathless, I sat down Tara sat down with me, after a few minutes, I stood up and started to walk again,Tara never left my side she looked up at me now and again after walking a bit she sat down and refused to walk, I was getting breathless but wanted to get home, I sat down again, I had reached the part i put tara’s lead on, after awhile I was ok to walk again, Tara walked alongside me she had her lead on now, as we got near home she walked a little faster, we made it home.
I sat down, switched my laptop on and googled NHS 24 put the symptons in as soon as I had done this, the screen started flashing red, the words came up, CALL an ambulance I looked at the screen in total disbelief what a load of rubbish I thought, I felt better had some tea and started to relax, but i had this nagging doubt at the back of my head. I phoned the emergency doctor, she came out checked me over put an ECG on me, and said nothing to worry about it could be severe indegestion.
It went quiet for a couple of days, I was terrified of walking my usual walks, I started walking short walks, poor Tara she never complained, she done her bussiness as quick as she could then turned around to walk home.
Then the Sunday afternoon walk came, I walked the ten minutes to my local park,The Pain hit me really bad, i sat down on a bench, ohhhh the pain, I couldnt breathe, my throat tightened iwas feeling weak almost fainting.
Tara started barking loudly at some houses opposite the park, I saw the gate open, a guy looked out and shouted over to me, keep your dog quiet we dont need that noice. I got up and slowly walked home, as I reached the gate the pain hit me again, i was gasping for breathm, i was in panic mode, Sheila told me to calm down, i sat down and slowly the pain subsided, i took some paracetamol and the pain went completely. I slept firfully,
next morning I had to take my old motorhome in for her annual MOT, I phoned the surgery and asked for an emergency appointment, they gave me an 11 oclock appointment, I drove the motorhoe to the garage at the bottom of a hill from the surgery, I knew I had to climb this hill, and knew the pain would start again, I knew if they actually saw me they could sort itout once and for all.
I started to walk up the hill and as sure as hell the Pain started again, by the time I reached the surgery I was in serious pain. They called the doctor out and he took me straight into his room, done some tests he then said to me you have an unstable Angina, hospital for you, but first he wanted an ECG done before i went.
after the ECG the doctor said I could wait there it would be an hour before they could get me to the Hospital, I said I would prefer to make my own way there by bus, ok he said take it easy, I walked slowely to the bust stop and discoverd it would be an hour and a half for the next bus to the hospital, so I got the local bus home, jumped in the car and drove to the hospital, as soon as I arrived they put me in a room where they did some blood tests, the hospital doctor came and said if the blood tests bame back positive he would give me some tablets and send me home, and i would have to come back for Angina tests.if the blood tests came back negative i would have to stay.
After four hours waiting he came back and said he was sorry but I have had two heart attackes that had done some tissue damage and would have to stay in. OMG I said I cant stay, my partner relies on me and no one can take my dog for walks. i said can I go home and make some arrangements, no he said, but I could make some phone calls which I did.
They took me up to a ward gave me one of those horible gowns and put me to bed wired me up and I was forbidden to move.

  1. So glad you made it peterat2. That being said, why are you so stubborn about getting help for yourself? You could have had THE BIG ONE and that would have greatly saddened your partner and Tara, but I’m sure your partner has been reading you the RIOT ACT (American for yelling at you) too. Best regards.

  2. So glad you are alright Peter and glad you wrote this blog about you heart attack. I hope that you in much better health today but sorry you had to suffer a heart attack . Best regards Anne Marie

  3. Wow Peter – you were very lucky to have survived not one, but two heart attacks. I ask the same question sunflower did – why did you take so long to seek help for yourself? Actually, I sort of already know the answer – men hate to admit they have a health problem. Still, I’m glad you got help in time. I hope you take really good care of yourself from now on. Warmest best wishes, Jojo
