Thanksgiving Day

Today is the day we reflect on the blessings in our lives and give thanks. As most of you know, this has been a trying year for Josh and me, beginning with my eye surgery in February and the complications that followed.
A week after my eye surgery I got into an altercation with a table saw, and unfortunately the saw won, taking the tip of my left thumb with it.
In April, I had a huge episode of “Old Timer’s Disease” when I decided to go back to work. (What WAS I thinking? LOL)
The first of June, I had surgery on my other eye, followed 2 weeks later by the fire that consumed most of the downstairs of my house. If you have never spent 2 weeks in a hotel with 2 poodles, 2 German Shepherds, and Josh, you don’t know what true adventure is.
Then sometime in July or August (by now I am not sure what year it is much less what month) I get a call from my grandson telling me that he just has an “up close and personal” meeting with a Hummer, while driving my Rav 4, with my youngest brother, Jodie. Luckily both of them were unharmed, but the accident was fatal for my poor Rav 4.
Then came that awful day the end of August when my oldest brother called me to let me know our middle brother Randy had just had a horrible accident at work almost completely severing his right foot. Several surgeries and weeks of indescribable pain later, he made the decision to go ahead and let them take is foot so he could begin the healing process.
The first of November, we were able to move back into our house thanks to my wonderful oldest brother, Skip. He was in charge of the remodeling of our house and his crew did a phenomenal job, getting us back home in just 4 months.
So yes, it has been a roller coaster year for us, but after all is said and done, we are all here, all healthy and so thankful for all of God’s blessings. Our wonderful mom who went to Tupelo for 2 months to take care of Randy, my sister Darlyn, the glue that holds our family together, my three fabulous brothers, Skip, Randy and Jodie, our 7 wonderful kids, Michelle, Mac, Jenny, David, Mike, Nathan, and Elaine, our 12 precious grand babies, and Chandler, our precious great grandson.
And on the top of my list is my wonderful husband Josh, who has worked tirelessly to make things easier for me throughout the ups and downs and is still working his fanny off to get things in order now that we have moved back into our house. I really hit the jackpot when God brought Josh into my life.
All this goes to say that God doesn’t promise us an easy road or smooth sailing, but he does promise to be by our side when going through the storms. He has never failed me even during the darkest hours.
So for all the things I have mentioned, I give thanks to God, but mostly I give thanks FOR God and his blessed Son. THANK YOU LORD FOR ALL OUR BLESSINGS.

  1. Merryjay, that was really an amazing story.. and a testament to your trust and faith in God. Wonderful to see after what you’ve endured, that you can see and hold onto the blessings in your life rather than dwell on all of the difficulties becoming resentful and bitter. Not everyone can do so. Glad to see you back and so happy to hear your good news. Happy Thanksgiving 🙂
